Just interested to know what others think.
Apparently it was introduced when there was a big problem with pensioner poverty. I know some pensioners struggle, but should it be offered free to everyone just because they are a certain age?

Just looked it up. The TFL one is to bridg e the gap between age 60 and when you qualify for the state pension. You pa y a £20 admin fee. That is only available in London. My cousin happens to live there.
For everyone else the bad pass is linked to the female state pension age until the male and female pension age becomes the same.
