DS ate some string

By accident - he's 11 and it was around a piece of steak. It was about 20cm long. Will it just pass through? Confused
(I've name changed but am a regular - cutted up pèar, elderly Korean lady, cancel the cheque etc.)

Well if kids work like cats, then yes. But it comes out like a bead necklace and needs some assistance.

sooo....good luck Grin

SoyDora · 30/11/2018 19:30

How on earth did he manage to swallow 20cms of string?!
It’ll pass

hlob · 30/11/2018 19:31

Yeah it will pass he will live

OutragedERIC · 30/11/2018 19:32

A frayed knot.

stringeaten · 30/11/2018 19:32

I'm imagining a scenario like when the dog eats long grass and it comes out...uncomfortably Shock
I have no idea how he didn't notice. I was clearing the plates and saw that the string from his steak wasn't on his plate! He said he didn't notice!

YABU for thinking we care if you’re a regular or not and for the cringey list of old, popular threads.

stringeaten · 30/11/2018 19:35

Bertram Kibbler - what are you on about???
(And this isn't AIBU.)

How can he not notice? Is he one of those people that eats the fat?

stringeaten · 30/11/2018 19:37

Thank you to the SANE people who posted!

Yes he ate the thin, crispy (delicious) layer of fat from the edge of the steak.

Just don’t google ‘Henry King’ Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/11/2018 19:38

It'll go through.
I am wondering how though, I mean that's quite a long piece of unchewable string Confused

wombatsears · 30/11/2018 19:39

I always eat the fat, best part, it's delicious.

Pollaidh · 30/11/2018 19:40

I assume Bertam is joking - I'm a frayed not... threads?

GummyGoddess · 30/11/2018 19:40

I find fat horrible and chewy so maybe it got into his mouth with that? I can see how that would happen.

My brother swallowed a ball-bearing and was fine. With string just keep an eye out for stomach pains until it's gone through.

littlecabbage · 30/11/2018 19:41

Just keep an eye on him. Sorry to fearmonger - chances are he'll be fine, but I'm a vet and sometimes when cats eat string, their intestines concertina up along the length of the string, and it needs surgical removal.

Was the string tied in a circle? If so, less likely to cause issues. Any vomiting or abdo pain - go to A and E. I doubt you'll need to though.

stringeaten · 30/11/2018 19:48

String from my steak, with ruler for scale.

He should eat lots of toast or stodgy carbs. It's good if it was eaten with a meal. It will hopefully be incased in a bolus of food and then ultimately poo. Watch for stomach ache etc. I would check he passed it for peace of mind.

stringeaten · 30/11/2018 19:50

Thanks all.
Little cabbage - it may have been in a circle if he didn't cut it - mine was (I cut it for the photo).
Will keep an eye/ear out for any tummy ache but sounds like all will be well! He needs to stop bolting the best bits his food!

That Henry King poem Shock
I do like a nice cautionary tale!
