Panic stations! (cleaning help needed)

I've got three hours max to spend on cleaning the house this afternoon.

Fairly small cottage with three bedrooms (two for children). Every single room is untidy and/or dirty except for the bathroom and the loo (thank heavens).

I don't know where to start. Sitting room first? Or my bedroom? Or just lie on the floor sobbing? I've been flat out at work all week and am going to run home to get things sorted out before I have to dash off again. HELP!!!!

Perhaps tidy before doing any cleaning... I always find everything looks less bad when tidy, so even if you don't manage to complete the cleaning it will be tidy. Good luck.

Go into each room and pick a corner and spend 15 minutes there then move on. You'll be surprised how much you can get done when you are focussed

Priorities are the rooms the visitor are going into. Remove all rubbish then tidy. Quick dust then Hoover around furniture. Bleach toilets and sinks. All washing up next. Laundry to the laundry too
Make beds. Tidy shows and coats neatly. And gin. Don't forget the gin. And breathe.

Why is there no edit button. Laundry bin and shoes not showsSmile

This is what I do

  1. Make a cup of tea or coffee
  2. Run hot water down the sink then put plug in and stick some flash or zoflora in
  3. Open all windows
  4. Make each bed
  5. Go round with a bin bag collect all rubbish
  6. Dishwasher on or wash up
  7. Antibacterial wipe all surfaces
  8. Hoover everywhere
Then concentrate on any areas that still look a mess If really really bad pick one room and chuck and clutter in bin bags put in the room to deal with another day

Yep agree with getting it tidy, putting stuff away etc etc, clear the floors and hoover.

It will look a lot better and anyone who looks for dust on top of doors can feck off.

Wellthatsit · 30/11/2018 11:01

Get a box or laundry basket or big blue IKEA bag in each room. Chuck all the bits and bobs lying around into the box/bag. Get babynwipe and wipe over the surfaces and windowsills, then Hoover. It will look much better. If you have any time left, you can put stuff away out of the bag. Bathrooms: Chuck bleach in the toilet and wipe seat and taps. Kitchen, empty bins and bleach plughole, than quick wipe of cupboard doors. Don't worry about washing floor, just Hoover or sweep.

I always work top to bottom, furthest room down to kitchen. good luck!

You are all amazing. I have gin handy but will save that until darkness falls.

I'd do a general tidy up/declutter of all rooms first. Then surface clean the kitchen and bathrooms. Doesn't have to be a deep clean. Then hoover all rooms. That's what my priorities would be.

BlackrockMum · 30/11/2018 11:48

i'd do a quick 15-20 mins blitz in kitchen to get rubbish in bin, dirty dishes in sink washed or dishwasher loaded, then id do sitting room full tidy assuming as small cottage its more a tidy up toys and vacuum, plump cusion etc give yourself half an hour max and if not finished its bound to be a lot better, you'll probably find a load of stuff to be put away in bedrooms anyway, and then i'd do any hallways because as you come in to houses it gives appearance of being tidy and really shouldn't take any length of time, unless you need to mop, then id do kitchen wiping down surfaces, cooker surface, bit of disinfectant in sink, wipe table down etc sweep, again id remind yourself its a quick blitz you haven't time to do everything, then whatever time left? id do in bedrooms and id focus on throwing toys in boxes, laundry out of way and bins being emptied , middle of floors tidied up first, make beds or at least smooth out top layer, so again the rooms will look better. I've wooden floors downstairs so if I do a blitz like this I usually mop my way out of house, so do all this and first think that greats me when I get home is the mop! I always leave my bedroom till last as well I feel I can shut door on it and go to bed 15 mins earlier to do a bit of a tidy up
