Parking (but not an exciting one!!)

We have a dropped kerb outside of our house and a drive but the drive is too narrow to get our car up. A small car (think Citroen C1 size) might fit up at a push.

People keep parking across the drive - is this allowed?

Yes.

If you want to keep the drive free you would need to get a white line painted across it, but you wouldn't be able to park there. But anyone may park across a dropped kerb to an empty drive. You can either use the drive, or put up with it I am afraid. (I am talking about what is allowed rather than what is "right")

I believe people are allowed to block you out of your drive by parking across it when it’s empty. But they can’t block you in because that’s denying you access to the public highway.

Thanks all! There's no white line. I thought you couldn't block a drive but obviously I'm wrong!

My husband was very annoyed about it tonight and was pacing around waiting for the owner to return but got bored after about 5 mins. I'll tell him your words of wisdom!

Can you widen it a it so it’s useable for yourselves?

PontypandyPioneer · 29/11/2018 21:05

Unfortunately we can't, there's a fence on one side and the house on the other - the house is built quite close to the road. The house is about 100 years old so wasn't made with cars in mind! There is a garage at the top of the drive so I guess it was used at one point.

The front garden is very small so we can't even make that into a drive.

It's very rare when we can't get parked close by so not a big deal.
