Pros and cons of a 4 on/4 off job?

DH has a job interview next week and at the moment he works 7am-4pm Mon-Fri. The job he's applied for is 4 days on, 4 off, 4 nights on, 4 off etc etc, 12 hour shifts. We can think of a few pros and cons of these hours, like he'll have more full days at home and be able to spend more time with the kids, but I'll probably have to do bedtime by myself quite a lot and there'll be weekends where we won't see him.

What other pros and cons are there that we've not thought of?

My husband was 4 on, 4 off. Young kids, I ended up hating the shift patterns. He loved the job, but working Christmas, bank holidays, kids birthdays wasn't great if his shift fell on one of those events.
Prekids was fine.

My best friends husband does this. She hates it. Hardly any weekends together, working over Christmas, by the time he's adjusted off his nights, he's back for his days. He does two days, two night, four off (but one of those he's obviously sleeping part of the day).
