Bingham is usually highly rated in satisfaction tables. Good schools, activities, links via A52 and A46. Has spread a lot in recent years though.

thurnton · 29/11/2018 17:45

Not strictly between the 2 but Southwell and the surrounding villages (Oxton, Halloughton, Upton) are really nice.

AlwaysColdHands · 29/11/2018 17:51

Yes, look at villages around Southwell/October/Gonalston etc, if that’s too far off the mark. I grew up around there and consider myself lucky to have done so Smile

BifsWif · 29/11/2018 17:56

Southwell, Oxton, Ravenshead, Bingham and Farnsfield.

I am very local.

EastMidsGPs · 29/11/2018 18:35

Cropwell Bishop, Cropwell Butler. Flintham, Stragglethorpe, Langar

Just a few, some largish and with lots going on - for example Flintham with its community museum, community shop and community choir.

Oh sorry I was thinking A46 towards Newark - however there are good road links.
Also thought of East Bridgford, Upton and Woodborough,

flumpybear · 29/11/2018 18:39

Bingham, Bottesford, West Bridgford is best by far but may be too close to Nottingham?

flumpybear · 29/11/2018 18:40

Vale of Belvior too ... most places !

mateysmum · 29/11/2018 18:47

Long Clawson - large village - school, shop, GP, pub, active village hall.

Waltham on the Wolds and the villages around it have some nice houses and good access to both Grantham & Nottingham.

It's a lovely and underrated part of the country

Ravenshead is v nice but is not between Nottingham and grantham.

Doobydoo · 29/11/2018 18:51

Woolsthorpe...Colsterworth.

EdithWeston · 29/11/2018 19:05

Do you have DC and do you want a grammar school? If so, then Bottesford or villages in the Vale of Belvoir

snowdropsandstrawberries · 29/11/2018 19:21

Most villages in the Vale of Belvoir are wonderful. If you have dc and want them to go to grammar in Grantham just be careful about the distance for the girls school (not an issue for the boys which allocates places using top scores.)

basilsenia · 29/11/2018 19:37

It depends... nice for what? Are you looking for somewhere to live or just somewhere nice to go on a day out for some food/wander round?

BifsWif · 29/11/2018 20:42

I got excited when I saw Nottingham and missed the Grantham part. It is lovely!

Babypythagorus · 01/12/2018 10:01

Sorry, yes to live! And yes, one kid, about to start YR. I’m a massive hippy when it comes to schooling. Not interested in naughty steps, public shaming in behaviour policies, etc etc. We’re both teachers so also pretty sure she’ll be fine academically - not interested in a school that’s stressing kids and parents out about phonics tests or sats. Just want somewhere nice and loving, really, where she can be herself.

Currently looking at Candleby Lane school in Cotgrave, Carnarvon (in Bingham, so nice to see it recommended!), and Orston... anyone with knowledge of those?

I'd personally avoid Cotgrave (apologies to anyone who lives there)

Babypythagorus · 01/12/2018 12:13

Why?!

OP posts:
LIZS · 01/12/2018 18:43

Cotgrave is a relatively deprived area, a bit rough!

flumpybear · 02/12/2018 05:42

Agreed re Cotgrave - not great

user187656748 · 02/12/2018 16:26

Another vote for avoiding Cotgrave
