Decaffeinated tea bags.

I'm trying to cut out caffeine. I've finally found a decaf coffee I like. Many years ago I bought some decaf tea bags and they were 🤢 🤢 🤢.
Can you recommend some decaf tea bags that taste reasonably LIKE normal ones please...

Twinnings or PG Tips I like. I mainly drink decaf. Or Roobos for a change, that’s stronger and can be drunk with milk.

DeezMutts · 29/11/2018 16:00

Sainsbury’s own brand or Yorkshire are the closest I’ve found.

Flowers12345 · 29/11/2018 16:03

I find Tetley the best alternative, I always drank Yorkshire Tea prior to cutting out caffeine.

M&S without a doubt. Yorkshire coming a close second.

bedtimestories · 29/11/2018 16:16

I like it STRONG, Yorkshire tea or Ringtons are the best I've found. Tesco own at a push

pompomcat · 29/11/2018 16:17

Clipper decaf is good, I can't tell the difference.
Rooibos tea does taste different but it's good with milk and naturally caffeine free if that is of interest.

Barry's decaf (Irish brand) are the best and taste like actual tea

romany4 · 29/11/2018 16:23

Sainsburys own are lovely

TheMagicTorch · 29/11/2018 16:23

Yorkshire Tea Smile

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 29/11/2018 16:26

M&S; Lidl's are surprisingly good; Coop's are OK

BlueUggs · 29/11/2018 16:26

Clipper decaf are nice. I like the twinnings earl grey decaf but it pisses me off they're so flipping expensive!!!

HelloBrass · 29/11/2018 16:30

PG Tips are my absolute favourite. I actually prefer the taste to normal tea, even caf PG Tips.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 29/11/2018 16:31

Not v helpful but Tetley ones are rank

Almostthere15 · 29/11/2018 16:32

Yorkshire tea by a mile. Tetley are utterly miserable and pgtips not much better.

All of them need a longer brew time though than a standard bag

Grapetree · 29/11/2018 16:32

Sainsburys own brand (blue box), I didn’t like Tesco’s

YeOldeTrout · 29/11/2018 16:35

I have become a snob about this.
There are 2 ways to decaf tea, one is with CO2 & the other (offhand I think) is chlorination. The CO2 method is more expensive but leads to vastly better flavour.

Of the ones I have tried, Waitrose & Lidl (yes, really, Lidl) are the nicest bags I've tried. I can't recommend Sainsbury's or Yorkshire (maybe b/c I live in hard water area). Someone told me Tesco's is alright, too, but i haven't tried them.

Waitrose sell loose decaf tea, but it's very weak so I wasn't impressed.

I drink a lot of Rooibosch, too, but the flavour (slightly spicey) is a marmite thing. Much lower in tannins than black tea, which is good.

Bittermints · 29/11/2018 16:38

I've only had decaff tea a few times using Waitrose teabags and I honestly couldn't have told you that they weren't the same as normal teabags. Interesting to learn that there is a scientific reason for that!

DeezMutts · 29/11/2018 16:39

I think it’s a case of trial and error finding which one you like the best going by these replies op. Pretty much every brand on the market has been mentioned Grin

Elderflower14 · 29/11/2018 17:20

Has anyone tried Aldi decaf??

OP posts:
balalalala · 29/11/2018 17:47

Twinings English breakfast tea are the only ones I really like. I can't really tell the difference to the caffeine version!

JennyOnAPlate · 29/11/2018 17:51

I only drink decaf and Sainsbury's own are the best in my opinion (I've tried quite a few different brands over the years!)

If I can't get to a Sainsbury's I buy Yorkshire.

bitingcat · 29/11/2018 17:52

Another vote for Sainsbury's own "red label" - in a blue box! (Why is decaf tea always in blue packaging?)

Topsyloulou · 29/11/2018 17:54

I've been drinking decaf for about 5 years and have tried pretty much all of them. My favourites are Yorkshire, Sainsbury's & Lidl. Twinnings is good but can't justify the price. PG Tips & Tetley are rank.

CanYouHearThePeopleSing · 29/11/2018 17:56

I've been caffeine free for about 6 years now - think I've tried them all!
Clipper are among the best, but expensive. Yorkshire are perfectly acceptable. Waitrose Essential are my current first choice. Aldi also perfectly fine - I stock up whenever I'm there.
Tetley are terrible - really metallic. PG Tips not great either.

There seems to be a fair amount of consensus about Clipper/WR/Yorkshire/Tetley and PG on this thread, which is helpful!
