Vegans, come and tell me what you have for breakfast

  1. At home.
  1. If you didn't have time to have breakfast at home, what can you buy from a cafe on your way to work? I'm having more trouble with this one.

There's a surprising amount of cereals, both branded and supermarket own, that are vegan friendly. They're my go-to day to day.

I also like to make overnight oats using rolled oats, soya yogurt, fruit (fresh, dried and frozen) and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. That's a good one to put in a tub and take with you on the go because it's quite thick and can't spill, especially in a decent pot.

Then there's good old chocolate on toast! My favourite is this one from Pip & Nut Grin

I've never had to buy breakfast on the run yet but can imagine the choice in cafe's is quite limited. Everything has dairy in it, let alone eggs and honey. I try to make sure that if I'm short on time I eat breakfast and sacrifice something else I don't have time for instead, like putting on make up. But that's just my personal choice Smile

Isn't smashed avocado on sourdough toast the go to vegan cafe breakfast?

You just need to find a cafe that sells that. Or beans on toast if the cafes near you are of the more traditional kind.

Black coffee and peanut butter on toast at home and black coffee with avocado or beans on toast at a cafe. Loads of places do soya or oat milk now but I like it black. I occasionally have fruit and fibre with oat milk and banana at home and we sometimes do jus rol pan au chocolat or jus rol croissants with flora freedom spread and jam on the weekend or mix it up with a Linda mccartney sausage sandwich.

I meant more like food you could buy and then take to work and eat at your desk, rather than sitting in a cafe.

Food I take to work: nakd bars or other whole food bars, apples/bananas/any fruit really, some nuts sometimes, instant porridge tubs (can get vegan ones from Sainsbury's). Lots of things are "accidentally vegan". Smoothies/juices

Breakfast I eat at home: beans on toast, cereals, fruit, granola, flatbreads with vegan cream cheese, smoothies

At home - alpen and soya milk usually, or blueberry wheaties! Occasionally overnight oats made with alpro yogurt & berries, if I’m in a rush/have run out of milk sometimes just toast & flora.

I don’t do out and about breakfast really, those trek (I think that’s what I mean?) bars are quite nice though, I like the chocolate covered one!

Avocados are not vegan

LauraMipsum · 29/11/2018 16:29

I often skip breakfast, but if not and I'm buying it on the way into work, it's black coffee with an avocado bagel or black coffee and a banana. Very occasionally Pret coconut porridge.

Avocados are not vegan

Can someone explain?

adoggymum · 29/11/2018 16:51

Usually no added sugar muesli w/ coconut dairy free milk & blueberries/strawberries.

Or porridge made with the same milk, again no added sugar, blueberries and strawberries.

If you like toast-y type things the cinnamon and raisin bagels are delicious with dairy free flora freedom butter.

If I'm out (not normal for breakfast) I'll have something from Pret or just skip it altogether.

Skirtingboards · 29/11/2018 16:55

What can you have at Prey?

Pret.

Desk food wise Leon do a great cashew milk porridge (Pret's is a bit crap imo) and a lot of sandwich type places do bagels which you can have with peanut butter or jam/marmalade, no butter obvs. Pure do a great vegan Bircher muesli. We are definitely least well catered for at breakfast time, especially in hangover season! For that you really need toast, mushrooms, beans and chips at a greasy spoon. Mmm.

choppolata · 29/11/2018 17:05

Pret pretzels are vegan too, well some of them anyway. Also Bircher muesli and various fruit type things.

DreamADream · 29/11/2018 17:07

I usually have overnight oats or take a little pot of cereal to work. If I forget, Sainsbury's are now doing little pots of deliciously Ella muesli, in our little local they're in with th3 free from stuff. Tesco also do a free from vegan porridge in a pot, it's a bit shit though

Thanks everyone. Very helpful.
