Best pain relief and decongestant for sinus infection?

Ugh, my cheekbones, forehead and ear are hurting and I think I am developing a sinus infection. What tends to be the most effective painkiller and nasal spray or decongestant thing?

Want to make sure I have the right stuff in by the weekend in case I'm feeling very under the weather.

Sinutab - you’ll need to go to a pharmacy and pick it up but honestly, it’s the only thing that I find that helps!

Don't just automatically assume the brand names are best. If you look at the contents you'll see the stores own brands have just as much in at sometimes a 3rd of the price.

Asda cold and flu are 55p for 16. Brilliant!!!

They have a decongestant in

applespearsbears · 29/11/2018 10:05

We swear by the Sterimar saline nasal spray to help clear sinuses also and natural too

Boots own brand decongestants are the best ever in my opinion and much cheaper than the branded ones.

Yes, sinutab works for me. But the first thing I try is a really hot curry or chilli. The sort that makes your nose run!

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/11/2018 12:10

Thank you, will investigate these.

Yeah had an amazing and hot madras last night which I think was beneficial!

I don't care about brands, I just want the most effective medicine for sinus problems. I have cocodamol for other pain but no idea how good it is for sinuses!

A sinus rinse is good as well - we use the Neilmed one. It encourages the gunk out and is antibacterial.

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 14:17

Sterimar spray. It gets right up into the sinuses, whereas the rinses don't.

Hot, spicy food.

Co codamol

A decongestant.

Steam inhalation or a hot water bottle held over the painful areas.

Ibuprofen if you can take it.

Ephedrine nasal drops - awful but effective- have to buy from a chemist and you can't take them if you have any heart issues.
