Thinking of getting a soup maker

I fancy getting a soup maker but would be interested if anyone already has one.

From what I read, you just add vegetables, stock, turn on and soup ready in about 19 minutes.

It all sounds very good but I'm thinking is it just as easy to make in a saucepan and I'll end up with another gadget stuck in a cupboard.

We have got the Morphy Richards Sauté and Soup too, I love it!

The soup maker I have ordered doesn't have the saute option. I'm reluctant to spend more money in case this does turn out to be a 5 minute wonder.

How often do you use the saute option please? I'm thinking it's for onions/ leeks? Do you have to saute them, or does the machine do it please?

I use the sauté option when I make veg soup - for leeks or onions and celery. The bottom of the soup maker heats up, you add oil (I also add a knob of butter) then add the veg to be sautéed and cook for a few minutes, giving it an occasional stir. Then I switch the sauté option off, add the rest of the veg, plus stock, and choose the smooth option ( you can choose chunky if you wish). Then just let it do it's stuff for 21 minutes - lovely soup!
