Apart from something happening to your children, what frightens you most?

I was just thinking today how (for me) the most scary thing would be something happening to my children. Apart from that, it's the thought of someone who shouldn't be there, in my home. How about you?

Due to head injury or dementia or whatever being horrible to the people who care for me most.

TimeWoundsAllHeals · 29/11/2018 10:10

Like in the sense that my personality is so deformed I don’t even want to change and just keep being incredibly cruel to them.

Loopytiles · 29/11/2018 10:13

Obviously death of DH or I, for the impact that would have on the other one and the DC.

Otherwise any illness or injury to any of us significantly affecting cognitive and / or physical ability and / or causing chronic pain, long term.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 29/11/2018 10:15

Plane crash
Car crash
Losing my parents
House going on fire when we're asleep
Someone breaking in during the night
Carbon monoxide poisoning
Cancer
Being in a terror attack

I worry a lotHmm

starlight45 · 29/11/2018 10:17

My parents finding us. My parents getting access to my children. That is my terror and I get nightmares about it. I used to see them everywhere out of the corner of my eye and then I'd look again and of course it wasn't them. It was exhausting.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/11/2018 10:31

I am increasingly frightened about environmental changes and what sort of a planet we will have in 2 generations.

On a more basic level I am scared of being killed or raped at work (as a mental health nurse in a secure unit) sometimes. I watched a colleague being badly stabbed, and I once thought I was going to be raped but a colleague realised I was missing.

Loyaultemelie · 29/11/2018 11:05

Something happening to dh because apart from missing him (obviously a given) he still hasn't made the appropriate arrangements to ensure that we would be financially secure in that event. All it needs is 2 appointments but he's a faffer. I lose sleep over this

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/11/2018 11:20

Being sick. I am terrified of it. I worry about it all the time.

autumnleaves19 · 29/11/2018 12:05

Being raped or sexually abused

CheerfulMuddler · 29/11/2018 12:28

Climate change and how it's going to affect DS.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 29/11/2018 12:34

@HollowTalk I think you must be my identical twin because I would have answered in exactly the same way, down to your second post.

itallhappensforareason · 29/11/2018 12:41

Growing old and losing my husband, then dying a lonely old woman.

Woopsimsorry · 29/11/2018 12:48

Terrorist Attacks

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 29/11/2018 12:56

Death.I can't imagine never waking up again or not existing

formerbabe · 29/11/2018 13:11

Being homeless...the thought of it scares the shit out of me.

wotsittoyou · 29/11/2018 13:20

All of my fears centre on my children. Without them, I feel like I'm pretty fearless. I'm sure I'd be terrified if I was just about to be tortured, but it isn't something I'm afraid of because I'm completely confident it will never happen. I actually did wake up once to a burglar in my bedroom doorway. It sent a massive shock of terror through me, but it was only momentary, and quickly replaced by terror concerning the safety of the kids. So, I wouldn't say I'm particularly frightened of that either. I really feel like, whatever happens, I can manage it (except if it's to do with the kids being harmed, in which case I'm a massive, perpetually imploding, ball of fear).

ParkheadParadise · 29/11/2018 13:53

My worst fears came true when my dd was murdered.

After watching my mum battle dementia for 10yrs, I would say Dementia is my biggest fear. The thought that I wouldn't recognize my children kills me.

formerbabe · 29/11/2018 13:54

Paininthestain · 29/11/2018 14:01

@ParkheadParadise
Goodness, that’s horrific.

Locked in syndrome would be the worse

Sustained Torture,
Don’t worry much about death

Humans can endure a lot and can always survive and find positives. We are all survivors

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 14:04

Being looked after by other people because I'm too sick to do it myself.

costacoffeecup · 29/11/2018 14:08

Zombie 🧟‍♀️ apocalypse.

More realistically, not being able to protect the children from war/starvation. The fact this is actually happening in the world at the moment is terrifying.

BakedBeans47 · 29/11/2018 14:10

Something happening to me or my husband when the children are still young and then having to grow up without us

Narya · 29/11/2018 14:10

Going blind
Getting cancer
Getting dementia

...in no particular order

wotsittoyou · 29/11/2018 14:47

I'm so incredibly sorry ParkheadParadise.

BarbedBloom · 29/11/2018 15:34

Aside from something happening to my husband, it would be something like locked in syndrome, dementia or this horrible thing I read about where you suddenly can’t sleep and it ends in death - not like normal insomnia, I think it was a disease or something similar
