Property stolen from locked bike store.

DH stores his push bike in the bike store on site. It's accessible only by a security code provided to residents.

He has gone and checked his bike tonight and the rear wheel and brake set up which is attached to the wheel has been stolen.

We live in a gated complex which is managed by a management company. We have a concierge on site. The previous concierge was here for years and told DH to store his bike there. The local bobbies store their bikes in the same store.

There are no signs regarding property store at own risk. DH's bike was stored as per instructions and chained/secured.

The wheel set up that has been stolen is worth approx £100. His bike is worth about £1k. Both he and I are mainly annoyed because a resident or ex resident has clearly been in and stolen it.

Does anyone know what we can or should do?

Is there any cctv covering the bike store? If so surely that will show someone stealing it and you may recognise them. You can then go to the police with the evidence.

I doubt they'll do anything but you should change the combination. Will your insurance cover it? My bike was recently stolen and they dumped the child seat in the street. Angry

Also doesn't matter if there's signs or not. Theft is theft. Those signs are usually to protect the management company, they are not a defence for someone stealing.

There may be but we have no idea when it's occurred. It's been a while since DH has checked the bike because... y'know.. It's in a locked safe bike store.

I'm so cross on his behalf

Unfortunately you may just have to suck it up. Is there any way a policy can be put in place to change the combination every 6 months or so?

I don't know what the policy is but surely, if they provide a store, with a combination, the management company should take responsibility for changing the code etc?

I'm so fucking angry on his behalf. DH used to cycle lots but not so much now. That bike was once his pride and joy.

Fucking scumbags
