i'm doing it once a week - they just keep coming back - I normally use Vamousse but it doesnt seem to be working as I treated her sataurday (left overnight even though it says 20 mins) she was itching that same evening I put the treatment on fgs, which have you found to be the most effective treatment apart from shaving dd's head including removal of treatment… TIA

nitrid! its been a godsend here, only £3.99 in homebargains.
easy to apply, not too greasy and washes out fairly easy

Nitty Gritty comb, bottle of £1 conditioner. Daily comb for 3-4 days then every few days until you're certain every last bugger is gone. Can't remember the lousy life cycle exactly but that'll get rid of them without any expensive stinky chemicals

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/11/2018 18:42

We've used full marks, which is an oil. It works, but it does leave dd's hair looking very greasy.

We've also used lyclear shampoo, which is less greasy but takes longer (15 mins instead of 5). It also gets rid of all the lice.

Of course, since there is somebody in the class who is not getting rid of them all, they are passed round again and again. DD has had them 3 times since September!!! We definitely get rid of them all, by treating, then combing with conditioner every 2 days, treating again exactly 7 days after the first treatment, continue combing with conditioner. We can be free of them for 2- 3 weeks (still checking every couple of days) then suddenly they're back and we have to start again. It's awful.

Are you washing all her bedding as well, you may need to remove all her soft toys from her bed as well.

This time of year hats also need to be washed as well.

Notevenmyrealname · 28/11/2018 18:57

We used full marks on everyone in the house and on the hairbrushes then washed all the bedding and hats. It took two doses to get rid of them completely. It is oily and took a few shampoos to completely get it out but I reckoned it was a small price to pay.

We do ten nights, couple of hog bottles of v cheap conditioner combed through wet hair with a metal bitty gritty comb. Gets live ones and eggs and then any eggs you miss.
Tell the teacher that your getting them repeatedly and ask them to tell the class parents etc, they won’t mention your kids. Sometimes they go around and around because not everyone in class knows they are about. Good luck!

It took months to get rid of my DDs, nothing worked but in the end it was the nitty gritty comb that did the job as it got rid of the eggs and nits.

Lice don’t live for very long off the head. Obviously you don’t particularly want to be walking around in a hat full of dead lice Envy (< not envy) but equally no need for an emergency boil wash of all bedding if you discover them last thing at night! Would be last straw for me with nits/lice.

We have nitty gritty comb, washed bedding on hot wash, no toys in the bed, she wont wear a hat Grin
I've tried the hedrin overnight tonight and will wash and comb in the morning. We're She's so bored of it!
