Laying claim to the first Christmas row ☹️

There’s a stand off in the normally placid Dowsers household.
To be honest, this is picking up the threads of an unresolved row from last month.

Dh wants an air fryer.
I’ve said no, There’s no room in our modest kitchen for it and it’s like reinventing the wheel anyway.

He’s just asked for it for Christmas...😤

This one is going to rumble on ☹️

Mine was binned after 3 months. Food tasted awful and they stink, even without oil.

Dowser · 29/11/2018 13:23

Wow..I can’t get over the big difference of opinion
We have a kitchen just slightly bigger than a postage stamp. One wall is window, sink, drainer built in cupboards around fridge freeazer
Then a short wall with counter top with long cupboards above
Other wall has a dropleaf table .. so literally an 8 inch depth space with juicer on,
After doorway, cooker, counter top with 7 litre water jar and tv in corner

All cupboards are full..

He is lovely...he reckons..he knows where he can put it....
Saving that for skirmish 2

This will be right on Christmas as we go away for two weeks next week

Pity you can’t try before you buy...I wasn’t allowed a soup maker...as we had nowhere to put it

Hmmmm

Well that's easy then.
No room for soup maker = no room for air fryer.

BobLemon · 29/11/2018 13:29

Ah. I think your previous update decided the matter.

You said DH does the cooking?

He gets the air fryer.

jerkkneed · 29/11/2018 13:35

When new they do initially give things a slightly funny taste. But when that wears off after a few washes it is the only way to get really crispy sweet potato fries done in a decent amount of time.

SylviaAndSidney · 29/11/2018 13:36

My mum bought one a few months ago and offered it me after a couple of weeks. I said no.

ratherbeshowjumping · 29/11/2018 13:43

Mine is used almost every day. I bought my mum one last year & she thinks it's fab. She's now bought one for my aunt for Christmas.
I'm a massive minimalist & take great pride in not having "clutter" but this is my pride & joy...
The kebab maker DH bought for my birthday last year, on the other hand.... Hmm

My kitchen is also tiny. We have one wall with sink and drainer and about 1m of work surface space. Then we have the oven and hob next to it. On the opposite wall, we have a 1m cupboard with end cupboard. And that's it. Luckily we have a tiny pantry which houses the fridge and microwave and a few shelves.

I still will replace my air fryer with another when it dies. We never use oil in it. And it's an upright one with a basket inside so it takes up less space than an actifry one. I don't want one like that anyway as it has the paddle which stirs and breaks up the food.

It's marvellous for reheating roast veg the next day - lovely and crispy. It cooks sausages etc healthily as the oil falls out to underneath the basket. Things like chicken breasts cook nicely. Anything that would get soggy on a baking tray (chicken steaks/fish fingers etc) cooks quickly and is crispy, not soggy. Oven chips are lovely with no extra oil required. I even pop croissants on a little square of foil into there for a minute to heat and crisp up.

It saves electricity as we rarely fire up the full sized oven. It's very easy to cook enough just for one if you are not needing food for all. And the kids have been able to use it safely from a relatively early age as it's safer to deal with the basket on a handle compared to a hot oven tray.

Have you a microwave, op? They do now make microwaves with air fryers built in if you want to get one for DH without adding another gadget to the kitchen.

I've got the breville halo too, no smells and no oil for 99% of cooking. It does the BEST bacon in the world IMO. We use it loads and it's much cheaper than having the oven on.
@dowser I've also got a w/o up maker, I love it too 😉, you ask for one, seems fair to me!

mirren3 · 29/11/2018 20:00

Sorry, soup maker. My phone is obviously an ass.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/11/2018 20:01

You can get company ones (sorry). My sister has one and they think it’s great.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 29/11/2018 20:10

I have one. It was given to me a few years ago. It's still in it's box, unused. The basket is ridiculously small for such a huge monstrosity of a device and frankly, I couldn't cook anything in it that I can't do just as well in my halogen cooker.
I do have a soup maker. Brilliant piece of equipment and only takes the same space as a kettle. Gets used frequently.

Dowser · 21/12/2018 10:15

And yesterday...the air fryer was waltzed into the house.

☹️😡

He played a blinder. While I was Christmas shopping with grand daughter he snucked off and got one.

I’ve left him
