Sorry for the hideous picture.

Have had a small, flat mole lower centre back my whole life, never changed much but started to feel more aware of it 6 weeks ago.

DM thought it looked slightly blistered & said to keep an eye on it, has tingled and itched a little so asked DH today and he says it has changed a lot, grown, definitely blistered. I asked him to take the photo for me and feel horrified.

GP's computers are down til Monday, I'm 6 months pregnant with first DC and fucking shit scared.

Anyone know anything about moles / skin cancer please?

Sorry again the image is so gross.

I believe moles are prone to changing during pregnancy, I had one that got itchy etc. And it was fine, just get it checked and out your mind to rest

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 28/11/2018 17:11

Look up the ABCDE criteria of melanoma moles.

I would still see a dr just to be safe!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 28/11/2018 18:03

I would get that checked just to put your mind at rest. I'm pretty vigilant about that kind of thing because a family member died of melanoma. I'd rather bother a GP for nothing than ignore something that's easily treatable if caught early.

No real advice but a hand hold. Go and get it checked out. I went to the GP about one on Monday and I have an appointment at the hospital about it tomorrow. I’ve not told anyone and I’m trying not to worry. No point catastrophizing just yet Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 29/11/2018 23:14

Chances are it's fine, but you'll never relax now until you've had it checked. Make a GP appointment and whatever you do don't poke or scratch it as you'll make it worse and then worry more. Whatever is going on it seems like you've caught it early, which is always a good thing. Best of luck Flowers

DustyMaiden · 29/11/2018 23:14

There is an app to check them, can’t remember what it is called.

Youmadorwhat · 29/11/2018 23:16

I had a huge mole on my hairline that actually disappeared when I was pregnant...no joke!! One day I woke up and realized it was gone. Never to be seen again!! 😮

Screaminginsidemeagain · 29/11/2018 23:23

I sent DH off to get a mole checked as I felt it had ‘changed’.
Dr wasn’t worried about it but flagged 3 he wasn’t sure about that we would never have considered.
Referral was really quick and in the end the 3 were fine and the original one I sent he about wasn’t a mole but some type of wart.
If it’s worring you get it checked. The referrals are normally really quick if there is a worry.
Please don’t use Dr google or random MNers.

myrtleWilson · 29/11/2018 23:29

I think some chemists have a mole checking service that you may be able to access quicker than the GP if their computers are down...

WiltedDaffs · 29/11/2018 23:37

I had one which changed during both my pregnancies, a few new ones pop up too. The one that changed was weird to start with (it was massive, asymmetrical, different colours, different heights) been checked several times and deemed ok. The dermatologist said they can change during pregnancy.

Several years later I had it removed privately as I was always anxious about it, was tested and found to be benign. So even weird looking ones can turn out to be ok. Get it looked at just in case but try not to worry, it's probably fine.

heatherblue · 29/11/2018 23:47

I don't know if this will be reassuring but I had a malignant melanoma removed more than 30 years ago, it was sent off for tests and was definitely malignant. The removal was a very simple procedure under local anaesthetic and while I have to take extra care in the sun, it's never come back. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that in the unlikely event this is something nasty it should be easy to treat. Get it checked for sure but try not to worry too much.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/11/2018 00:02

Moles definitely do change during pregnancy. They also have their own mad stuff going on - I was once referred for a mole check and was told it was eczema. Specific mole-type eczema!

M sure it's nothing to worry about but please do just get it checked.

Nonomore2 · 30/11/2018 00:08

As others have said it is most likely nothing but do get it checked. Just try not to worry, it really is most likely nothing and you can’t afford to loose any sleep now - enjoy your sleep whilst it lasts!

Thanks so much everybody for replies.

Saw the GP yesterday (had to take the notes by hand poor lamb Hmm) & although he was a bit bumbly he was certain it isn't cancerous. He did think it was worth sticking a needle in to deflate the blister before concluding it wasn't blistered, which I told him (realise in my OP I said it was but then realised it is just a lump), then offered to either sort there and then with a scalpel (and without a local!) or see what it did for itself.

Thanks to responses here and DF's account of an identical thing I think it probably has changed as a result of pregnancy, grown because all the over-bump maternity wear has been rubbing against it whereas a normal waistband does not and will likely deal with itself in time so happy to see where that goes - I'd rather let my body deal with it than intervene although can't say the idea of a scalpel was terribly appealing...

Thanks so much again for all reassuring posts, very grateful x

Glad all was ok. These things are definitely worth getting checked out.

My gp said that if hair still grows out of it, it’s generally a good sign.
