But is that how they're described? The only qualifier I've ever seem with refreshments is "light" :o

I've been to US events where there are heavy hor d'eouvres. Which is essentially small portions of dinner foods designed to let you walk around and eat them

oh this should totally be a catering thing

so you know if you're getting dinner via eating the nibbles - or just vegetable crisps etc.

No. Only "light" refreshments (which will be disappointing) or "refreshments" in which case there is hope of something decent.

I imagine 'heavy refreshments' as being a quadruple gin and tonic,a huge slice of chocolate fudge cake and a family sized packet of Kettle chips. As opposed to 'light refreshments',consisting of a cup of weak tea and a fairy cake. Grin

That sounds nice. Though I'll have wine as part of my heavy refreshment rather than the gin thanks

My local church has a service once a month which offers "substantial" refreshments after. I would imagine that would be the same thing?

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 28/11/2018 20:12

I like the sound of "substantial refreshments"
