So I filled in the online form and I’m gobsmacked at the additional I’m being paid in child tax credits.

So this is 80% of my childcare costs?

The process was so quick that I’m concerned. I input how much I pay per week. Three different amounts. They have averaged it out per week.

I had to provide detail of my Ofsted registered nanny. But that’s it. No doumentary evidence. Nothing.

She has one job , with me, and is within the tax personal allowance amount. I pay her by online banking. I keep a log of all dates and payments.

Will I be asked to provide proof? If so, what?

Many thanks

Wait what? How? Our nanny is costing us an arm and a leg, I would love to know how to get the govt to pay for her!

Workreturner · 28/11/2018 15:47

Well, do you receive child tax credits??

Oops sorry I totally forgot to check back. I don't get CTC, I don't think we're entitled. Not to be snobby but if you are in receipt of CTC I thought it was only up to a certain income? So how is it possible to afford a nanny? Sorry I'm phrasing that really badly

I’m a single mother.
Even though on good salary (pro rata as I’m part time)
Fairly extensive help if a single parent

Well I'm glad to hear that. I do wish there was more widespread help with childcare costs though!

nannytwins · 30/11/2018 07:40

I'm a Nanny and my boss pays me via this scheme.
Be aware that it can take up to 5 days to get from your government account into your nannies! I've often been paid a few days late because of the time it takes.
Also what do you mean by she earns under the personal allowance? You will still have to pay her National insurance and employers insurance. My boss uses Nanny paye and they take care of all that. I earn just a tiny bit more than the personal allowance.

@nannytwins

That’s UC

I’m on Tax credits and it’s been paid directly to me already

Oh ok... My boss uses a government scheme and they top up what she pays in... 20% top up I believe.
You'll still have to pay your nannies national insurance and pension.

Workreturner · 30/11/2018 17:57

@nannytwins
Wrong.
She doesn’t earn enough for me to be required to set up a pension (min £10k eerning. Not close)

She doesn’t meet earning threshold for me to have to pay national insurance

I’m a bit confused. Tax free childcare is where you pay 80% and the government pays 20% (and it is fantastic free money woo)

Caprisunorange · 30/11/2018 17:59

Sorry I’ve misread, you said child tax credits not tax free childcare!

Workreturner · 30/11/2018 18:00

You don’t pay ni I’d earn under £116 a week
