Kissing on the lips

Your child that is.Just read about Piers Morgan slamming David Beckham for kissing her on the lips. Its totally ridiculous to say it looks "creepy".Not everyone does it but I don't think it's wrong to,we kiss our ds on the lips and will do for however long he lets us! Anyone agree?

I kiss my children on the lips, I also kissed my own parents on the lips.
Aside from the cold sore issue, I find people who are weird about it rather odd themselves.

Snowwontbelong · 28/11/2018 10:24

Ds's 4+10 still happy to lip kiss. Dd's 11+13 swopped to cheeks the past year /so of their choosing.
Anyone making it into an issue is the one with an issue imo.

BettyCrook · 28/11/2018 10:28

I find it absolutely disgusting.

Dinosforall · 28/11/2018 10:30

I don't think it has a sinister undertone or anything, I just find it a bit yuk. For me, lip kisses are between partners only.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2018 10:31

I never kissed my parents on the lips. I have never kissed my children on the lips.

Doesn't bother me what anyone else wants to do though, especially David Beckham. Hmm

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/11/2018 10:35

Why @Betty?

For context, I dont even like drinking from the same cup or bottle as other people. I find most toddlers and babies have snotty philtrums and wet dribbly mouths. If they are older, it's still weird..and too many people smoke, have dental issues and probably have cold sores. I know it's not done with a sexual motive but I just find it revolting. I too think kissing on the lips is between partners.

AamdC · 28/11/2018 11:06

I think its disgustingbthat people are tryingbto sexualise an innocent kiss between Father and daughter

Nicknacky · 28/11/2018 11:10

betty Why is kissing your own flesh and blood disgusting but yet ok for a partner?

BettyCrook · 28/11/2018 11:38

To be fair a lot of things are ok for a partner only...

Nicknacky · 28/11/2018 11:41

betty I’m really not sure what you are getting at? Clearly there are things you would only do with a partner but only a weirdo would compare that with kissing your child on the lips

sparklyllama · 28/11/2018 11:47

My DD age 13 still gives me a kiss on the lips.
Anyone who finds that 'absolutely disgusting' has severe problems in my eyes Confused

BettyCrook · 28/11/2018 11:48

I'm getting at that it's not a fair comparison to make. I gave my reasons above and Dinosforall also posted along similar lines.
Carry on kissing your children Grin

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/11/2018 11:48

I’ve never kissed my parents on the lips and wouldn’t kiss a child on the lips, I do think that’s for your partner only. But I wouldn’t be disgusted by it or judge people who think differently.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 28/11/2018 11:51

I think Betty is weird for thinking it’s disgusting.

I wouldn’t kiss another person’s child on the lips (by choice, little kids often just sling a slobbery kiss at you when you’re expecting a hug!) but I do my own all the time. I don’t remember ever kissing my own parents, on the lips or otherwise tbh.

It’s just a peck not full on tongues. Why some people find this offensive I don’t know.

Fashionista101 · 28/11/2018 11:53

Surely age plays a part here? I always kiss my 4 yo on the lips. My friend (22) kisses her dad on the lips. So so weird. It wasn't even super fast Confused

PointlessUsername · 28/11/2018 11:56

My parents never kissed my siblings or i on the lips.

I kiss my dc on the lips except DD as she does not like being kissed on the lips.

amusedbush · 28/11/2018 12:15

I've never, ever kissed a family member on the lips. I wouldn't kiss a child on the lips.

To each their own. Age definitely makes a difference though, I think it's weird for an adult to kiss their parents on the lips.

DelurkingAJ · 28/11/2018 12:29

I did an utter double take the first time I saw now DH kiss his DM on the lips. But they as a family all so so and I’ve had to learn to adjust! It’s still not my preference but that’s my upbringing speaking (my amazing DDad was pretty repressed).

ceeveebee · 28/11/2018 12:34

I always kiss my children on the lips! Didn’t realise it was seen as weird. Don’t really care if it is anyway.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 28/11/2018 12:38

Ive never kissed family or my kids on the lips. I find it a bit icky. We're a very tactile family and kiss lots but on the cheek or forehead etc.

I didn't realise it was common until MN so would have thought it odd if I saw it but know now its not unusual!

Doubletrouble99 · 28/11/2018 12:49

I don't personally kiss my children on the lips nor was kissed on the lips by my parents but I have absolutely no problem with David Beckham kissing his 7 year old DD on the lips. I thought it looked lovely and captured a loving Dad with his little girl really well. Showed he is human and a loving dad at the end of the day no matter how famous or wealthy he is.

I think Piers Morgan is the one who is disgusting to have these perverse thoughts.

Malibucyprus · 28/11/2018 12:55

I kissed my DD's on the lips when they were little, now aged 11 & 14, it's cheek or forehead kisses.

My OH's DF (he's 83) gives me big a smacker on the lips every time I see him, now that I do not like!

Raera · 28/11/2018 13:16

I'm a grandma and have always let the child take the lead.
Younger daughter kisses me on the lips, older one offers a cheek.
The small GC approach puckered up and kiss me on the lips.

Vegisgrowingwell · 28/11/2018 13:22

Pre children I thought it was disgusting and weird, I now think it's weird not to do it! (Child dependent and wanting to be kissed on the lips).

My two are 12 and 10 and it varies, I'd never force it but if they want to kiss me on the lips I won't stop them!
