Hi Tia, the "happyself journal" is fantastic, I couldn't rate it high enough. My 9 year old completes it daily (once we managed to get it into his routine) he puts it by his pyjamas which reminds him to look at it. He really thinks about the quote of the day and we have a chat about what it means. He independently fills out his top 3 things of the day, but we try to encourage him to explain a bit more about why he has chosen them. He always used to write LEGO, but now explains why he loves lego! He trys to fill out as many 'how many you can tick off today?' as a personal challenge for himself.

Once he got into the routine of actually completing the journal his behaviour improved and he has become more positive and confident about things. He has actually stood up in front of his class and talked to the head teacher about the journal as he wants his friends to do it to. Something I would never have thought he would do as he was so shy and nervous. I have used a journal for a while but i didn't think it would have such a positive impact on my children. I am so glad we found it and I think that all children would benefit from using one. ( I plan to speak to the headteacher to try and encourage them to use it, they are very focused on positive mindsets so this journal would go hand in hand with their aim)

Thanks that's a very positive response- initially thought just for my dd but thinking ds might benefit also.

This looks like a fabulous idea.

Is there an adult equivalent?

I'd be interested in an adult equivalent if there is one.

Imonaonehorseopensleighhey · 21/12/2018 09:00

What a great idea. Is there something similar for older teenagers?

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 21/12/2018 09:10

It looks like a wonderful idea - but my goodness , it's expensive. (Focussing on the good things that happen in life, no matter how tiny, is a proven psychological and spiritual way of raising happiness/ gratitude levels.)

I wonder if there's a way of making something similar cheaply available for children whose parent haven't got 20 quid to spend on all of their kids' Xmas presents, never mind one.

There are a number of adult equivalents eg The Gratitude Journal (I have used one in the past - when there was only one - it seems that there are several now, depending on how spirit;/ religious/ atheist you prefer your happiness).

Lovely to hear that this technique is proving useful for children though - it will give them a lifetime habit of optimism, without being unrealistic about things, which has to be good*

Don't worry - your child will not become that nauseating little squirt Pollyanna* Xmas Grin

£20 for a 3 month journal. Definitely costly. But does look well designed.

I’d also like at purchase this for my ds but am really shocked by the cost. This should be more accessible for families. I think £20 is a bit much. There are cheaper alternatives on Amazon if you’re happy to have a look.
