I literally feel sick. Ive paid my rent and that’s it. Ive been off sick for four months due to surgery. I returned the 4th October. I got this letter a few weeks ago and joked I hope this doesn’t mean my wages are dropping. My manager said it was a standard letter. Am I wrong or does this mean my mabagement haven’t informed the right people? I’m sorry it’s so late I’ve just checked my bank account. I feel sick.

Actually it’s obvious looking at it that they haven’t informed payroll I’m back and my wages have dropped to half

That is a standard type of letter that employers would send if someone was coming to the end of a paid period of sick leave - however, you are clearly back at work!

It sounds as if they haven't paid your holidays. Who puts the holidays through for you?

EachandEveryone · 28/11/2018 09:20

My friend who does the Eros Teri gets buy don’t forget it all goes through on the computer so to me the annual leave would’ve been on it.

Can you go down to payroll? I had a few cock ups when i worked for the NHD (Pay roll were less than helpful) after Mat leave change of ward etc , but i stood my ground and got a same day payment , obvouslyy being the NHS they do ir in a overly complicared way.

EachandEveryone · 28/11/2018 14:55

Still waiting apparently it’s nothing to do with payroll but HR

nocoolnamesleft · 28/11/2018 15:01

Okay. Try HR next. If you're not getting anywhere, one useful key phrase is that they are illegally withholding your pay. This means that if you incur financial penalty (overdraft charges, credit card fees, fines for late payment etc) you have to keep evidence of it, because the trust is liable for those costs that they caused you to incur. This means that it is in the trust's interests to get it sorted before you do run into problems. Because it's cheaper for them.

Northernmum100 · 28/11/2018 15:06

Not in the NHS but have experience in another large organisation and it does look like there has been a failure between systems which haven't ok ked up your resumption. E..g your duties/clocking haven't been picked up by the pay systems for whatever reason. Also, check your phased return agreement- if it is a temporary short term plan then I would have thought you would still receive full pay as long as you were back at work in some capacity.
If you can physically see someone in HR / payroll and try to sort it out face to face that might be better. If they say tough, you will have to wait for the next pay day to get it refunded to you, ask them to make a CHAPS payment , especially as this wasn't your fault in the first place. If that doesn't work, can you get some backing from a Union?
Good luck, hope you can get it sorted soon- hard enough settling back into work without this to deal with.

Northernmum100 · 28/11/2018 15:07

Ok ked = picked!

EmeraldVillage · 28/11/2018 15:19

I’m not NHS but from my experience of large companies it would be the line manager’s responsibilities to update the HR system to confirm you are back at work. Payroll would run off the back of that. So in my experience this is something the management need to push through. Payroll are unlikely to take your word for it.

Wifeofapostie · 28/11/2018 15:31

Is your payroll still in-house? I also work for the NHS and our trust out sourced payroll a couple of years ago. Since then, just about everyone I know who has gone on maternity or had long-ish periods of sickness has had issues with their pay.

Wifeofapostie · 28/11/2018 15:34

Sorry I missed out my point...
It may not be your managers fault, if your payroll is outsourced to an incompetent private company. All enhancements at my trust were payed a day late this month due to our incompetent (private company) payroll.

EachandEveryone · 28/11/2018 16:10

Of course its outsourced since last year and they are saying its HR. It hasnt been straight forwarded since they took over and since all the rotas went electronic. No news. No one answers the phones. Its two buses away.

I had this problem after maternity. Everyone I spoke to said it was someone else's fault. I just kept asking for the next manager up until I was speaking to the director of HR. I made it clear that I didn't give a damn whose fault it was I just wanted my money that day. I also said as someone did upthread that I would be holding the trust liable if I incurred any charges due to late payments. I was literally on the phone all day to various people but they eventually sorted it.

It's bloody infuriating. I hope you get it sorted.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 28/11/2018 21:29

How did you get on OP? Did you manage to sort it out?

PurpleCrazyHorse · 28/11/2018 22:22

Stand your ground for an instant transfer. I managed to secure that the day before Christmas Eve when my maternity returnee didn't get paid!

seventhgonickname · 28/11/2018 22:49

Get your unions legal department involved.
Good luck, trying to sort these NHS cockups is not easy.
Use your credit card, keep all records and when it's sorted claim all costs back.

Here is a copy of the email passed between them . It makes no sense to me and its all to do with electronic rostering and from what i can gather lack of communication when i came back.

This above staff member had a sickness episode that ran from 04/06/18 - 03/10/18, however this was originally submitted to payroll with the incorrect end date of 02/09/18. eRostering subsequently informed you of this and asked you to open the sickness up again as the staff member was still off sick and we did not know the end date at that time.
When the staff member returned the end date did not update her ESR record due to the manual update process that had occurred and the staff member has been moved to half pay. Please could you close this sickness episode in ESR , check what pay she should have received and if possible arrange for her to be paid in full as soon as possible?

What im not liking is the “if possible” the trouble is that i dont even think these people are in the hospital building. They could be out of town for all i know.

It more likely the issue is HR than payroll. It’s also unlikely to me anything to do with your friend and the off duty. Somewhere along the line either your line manger or he haven’t processed your return to work paperwork correctly. You seem to be getting the run around. Speak to your union. They will be able to cut through the red tape.

EachandEveryone · 29/11/2018 00:29

Payroll cant payup until HR lock me in as returned. My friend did it from her end. I feel like i need to speak to them myself.

OP posts:
itswinetime · 29/11/2018 00:36

By all means continue to speak to hr but your union will be able to advise you best on getting it sorted ASAP and getting the pay you are due as quick as possible. This will be a very standard thing for them

EachandEveryone · 29/11/2018 11:16

This is like some kind of joke. Pay office said they are waiting authority to make an urgent payment from The Gatekeeper! What does that even mean?

OP posts:
beachysandy81 · 29/11/2018 11:24

As you were back at work on full hours when the pay was meant to be changing to half pay (28/10/2018) they have made a mistake. Just get your line manager to contact HR directly to explain when you were back at work on full hours and get them to amend the error immediately. They should be able to make an emergency payment to cover most of the amount and then it will get evened out properly next month.

SassitudeandSparkle · 29/11/2018 15:48

Urgent same-day payments usually cost the company so it's common IME to need authorisation from some kind of senior worker to get one - The Gatekeeper - good title!

Does sound like they've set it up to go at least and are just waiting for authorisation about bloody time too so I hope it goes through today for you.
