I've worked in local government and the nhs for the 20 years of my working life. As a naive 18 year old, I voted conservative but I now vote Labour.

PickAChew · 28/11/2018 00:09

Ex teacher. I vote Green or lib dem but would vote Labour if not doing so would let the tories gain a seat. Basically, I vote "please not tory".

Rumboogie · 28/11/2018 00:13

Worked in NHS all my life. Have voted both Labour and Conservative in the past, most recently Conservative. I think, however, the present Govt. is doing an awful job but the Corbyn Labour party is dangerous and will bring the country down - it is unelectable. Lib Dems are a joke. There seem to be no, or very few, politicians of any party with any true vision or ability, so, difficult.

I live in an area where anything in a blue rosette wins, so I try and tactically vote Lib Dem. I’m a labour supporter at heart.

echt · 28/11/2018 07:33

I'm a teacher. I think I have one year left of voting in the UK, before I lose it. Always voted Labour, by luck always in a solid Labour constituency.

I would rather poke my eyes out than vote Conservative (or Liberal as it is styled in Australia) Bunch of cunts, either hemisphere.

Villanellesproudmum · 28/11/2018 07:39

I was a Police Officer under Labour and swore never to vote for them, closed 3 busy London stations due to huge cuts and upped the number of Police officers introducing PCSOs, who then had no powers, so in reality reduced numbers however made it look as though they were raised, we were on the bare bones, don’t think it’s ever recovered.

maskingtape · 28/11/2018 07:40

Those that won't vote Labour because of Corbyn need to remember a party isn't all about the leader. Leaders are temporary. The conservatives would remain in power if those sitting waiting for Corbyn to leave don't vote.

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/11/2018 07:42

Previously I was a HCP and now work in education- I would never ever vote Tory and have previously been a member of the Labour party but I left when Corbyn won the leadership- I could never vote for a nasty misogynistic anti-Semite.

I have usually voted LD tactically where we currently live, to keep the Tory out, but can't vote for them any more as they are anti-women.

HerculesTheBercules · 28/11/2018 07:58

I have a relative who works closely with the Corbyn set up.

They say he is amazing in person, inspiring and trustworthy, and totally committed.

Not sure it has shaped my opinion of him, but I do give him a second chance now and try to listen to what he says.

Mind you, I also - many years ago - worked on the fringes of politics and MPs at that point didn’t have a good thing to say about him!

pourmeanotherglass · 28/11/2018 08:02

NHS healthcare scientist. Over the years I've voted Labour, Libdem and Green, mostly Labour and am now a member. Have never voted conservative.

FireworksAndSparklers · 28/11/2018 08:04

Nurse. Would never vote Conservative. Labour or Green for me.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 28/11/2018 08:05

Never voted conservative. Always labour.

But now politically homeless

Times like this I wish Lord Sutch was still around

teabagpleb · 28/11/2018 08:24

Civil servant. I can't vote Labour led by a Brexiteer. I quite liked Corbyn until then and have voted Labour before.
It's a shame the public will never go for the Lib Dems, blaming them for the Tory-dominated coalition.

NicoAndTheNiners · 28/11/2018 08:28

Would normally vote Labour and I won't while Corbyn is in charge. As things stand I don't feel I could vote for any current party.

AdamNichol · 28/11/2018 08:44

Only ever voted once, mostly for the experience. Will never vote again as I don't believe in democracy - either in philosophy or practice.
And in practice, you only have the illusion of choice. A plurality election system causes parties to fall into the gravity of the centre ground until they all say the same thing give or take. What they actually do (or even can do) is far more constrained by reality and events than some underlying ideology.
There is a point to voting on social issues rather than economic/systemic. Look over the economic performance of the UK for all classes from the post-war years and you'll see that it matter not a dot who is in charge. Governments can change social issues (rights, etc) but don't lead on this, they follow (eventually).
For now, you're left with a range of puppets who spew the same ideas that keep their funders happy. You don't get to pick the puppet master, just the figure on the end of their strings.

mamaslatts · 28/11/2018 09:02

I'm a nurse. Also watched last night with increasing horror.

I have never voted conservative, always lib dem, labour, green. Voted labour very reluctantly last time as don't like Corbyn. Will probably vote green next time.

I think if Labour had decent leadership they would be in power now. The last election saw the tories run the worst election campaign by any party I can remember in the last 30 years. Labour still lost and then had the audacity to do a fucking victory dance saying 'who really won?' Corbyn has totally swallowed the hype about himself.

I sadly think the next election will see a Conservative majority government which will have power for the next five years. I dread to think the state of our schools/NHS by then. I bet many MPs (both Conservative and Labour) will be sending their kids private.

MyOtherProfile · 28/11/2018 09:05

Teacher. Always labour. Could never vote Tory given what they're doing to health and education. I also blame them for creating the myth that Corbyn is dangerous. And I blame them for the mess that is Brexit. I genuinely don't understand anyone voting Tory.

mamaslatts · 28/11/2018 09:06

Also remember when Blair got in and rebuilt many schools because they were in such a state of disrepair after Tory rule. Tories are running them into the ground again.

NecklessMumster · 28/11/2018 09:07

Social worker and always vote Labour, although I live in a Tory stronghold so would vote tactically if I thought it would work

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 28/11/2018 09:08

There are no palatable parties I feel able to vote for. The Lib Dems and the Greens are selling women down the river, I loathe Jeremy Corbyn and I see the way commissioning is going under the current government.

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 28/11/2018 09:10

Oh and another reason I cant vote Labour is the PFI debacle. Yes Tony you had loads of brand new hospitals built, but they are tied into enormous repayments and stuck with paying outrageous sums every time somewhere needs a new lightbulb.

MamaLovesMango · 28/11/2018 09:12

NHS. I’ve never voted conservative. Voted Labour last time. I don’t know who I’d vote for next time round. I’d probably spoil the ballot paper like a PP if an election was called tomorrow.

AdamNichol · 28/11/2018 09:25

If you live in a stronghold where you're in the minority, there are various groups where you can swap votes with someone else, thus contributing to the victory of your party elsewhere.
eg: you want LibDem but live in a Tory/Labour marginal. You find someone from a LD/Tory marginal who likes Labour. They vote LD for you, you vote Lab for them.

MyOtherProfile · 28/11/2018 09:27

As a PP said if you spoil your paper you are still essentially voting... just voting for the status quo. You're doing nothing to change it.

LucheroTena · 28/11/2018 09:32

Always voted labour until Corbyn and his ilk hijacked it. Voted green last time, can’t stomach voting Lib Dem after coalition and austerity collusion.
