I’ve just been called at work by a bailiff to say he is standing in my property and has a warrant for an unpaid dart charge of £2.50. He wants £425 off me.

I’m at work, he’s threatening to remove property from the house or come to work and get my car. I have not got £425 what the hell can I do?

DD must have left the door open.

This is NOT a money begging thread at all, I could technically put it on my bank card but it would be my rent money. He says no payment plan can be made at this point

I think the best thing to do is pay the £425 , I’d try leave work and go check their paperwork , now they have access they will remove goods if they have a court order .

Bailiffhelpplease · 27/11/2018 12:59

I’m not going to pay £425 to some random bloke who’s phoned me up. He’s refusing to send a copy of the warrant over email. He could be anyone. I can’t leave work

Call the police you essentially have an intruder if they cant show you proof or anything. Are you aware of this charge?

ichifanny · 27/11/2018 13:04

If you think it’s real you really have no choice , DO NOT pay over the phone , can you get a neighbour to check if someone is there ?

ichifanny · 27/11/2018 13:05

Police is an option if you think it’s not legitimate .

Almostthere15 · 27/11/2018 13:06

I can't see why other option on have but to take leave. Or call the police to your property? How old is your dd?

itsnowthewaitinggame · 27/11/2018 13:07

You need to get off MN and get home if you believe there is a stranger in your house. If he can not show you ID you call the police. If he has ID I think you will need to either pay on your card or borrow the money

LIZS · 27/11/2018 13:07

How old is dd?

Shmithecat · 27/11/2018 13:07

Is it definitely a bailiff/enforcement agent and not a debt collector? Were you aware of the debt?

anothermothersusername · 27/11/2018 13:07

I’d be straight on the phone to the police. This guy could be anyone.

MrsPear · 27/11/2018 13:07

I’m sorry but you would have dozens of letters - how can you not know?!

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2018 13:07

Call the police. He says he is standing in your property. How? Either he forced his way in or he broke in. You say you have a child at home. I assume they are a teen. I'd tell the police the child is vulnerable.

PotteringAlong · 27/11/2018 13:07

You must have missed lots of notifications about owing a dart charge before you got to this point? Do you think it’s legitimate?

LIZS · 27/11/2018 13:08

Can you check your dart account?

abbsisspartacus · 27/11/2018 13:08

Call the police tell them you are willing to pay if he is legit but as far as your aware you owe fuck all and you have an intruder

Also how the fuck can they justify over four hundred pounds for a 2.50 charge

titchy · 27/11/2018 13:08

Presumably you've had notifications from the court and you didn't turn up, and have ignored subsequent correspondence? That's the only way it could have got to this point.

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2018 13:09

£425 for a £2.50 debt is absolutely dodgy. You would have had letters and phone calls before now. It can happen but it doesn't normally get to that stage.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 27/11/2018 13:09

You need to leave work and go home. If it is real he won’t just go away and forget about it because you aren’t in, and if it isn’t you need to phone the police. Either way you should really be at home.

P.s what’s a dart charge?

Bailiffhelpplease · 27/11/2018 13:10

I’ve just spoken to him, he is an enforcement officer not a high court bailiff. DD isn’t home but she was the last to leave so she must have left the door unlocked.

I have had two letters, the last one was two weeks ago and I was waiting for payday at the end of this month. It was around £120 at that point

OP posts:
abbsisspartacus · 27/11/2018 13:10

Naa he is a scam £105. Max fine

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 27/11/2018 13:11

Did you contact them to arrange a payment date or ignore the letters?!

Shmithecat · 27/11/2018 13:12

@TheFuckfaceWhisperer

Dart charge is the fee/toll for using the Dartford Crossing on the M25 over the Thames.

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2018 13:13

If DD left home I would doubt she left the door open. Most kids aren't totally stupid. Also the door being open doesn't give permission to enter the property let alone take things.

Call the police. You should not go home to confront a stranger who is damanding money. It's not safe.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/11/2018 13:14

For an enforcement officer to be round your house the case would have gone to court no? Did you receive no information on that?
