For those of you who take HRT, has it improved your libido, anxiety and mood?

Carriemac · 28/11/2018 10:32

your GP has to work to these NICE guidelines
www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/chapter/Recommendations#information-and-advice

and it is really good information about risks screeningetc

I'm 50 next year and suspect that I'm showing symptoms. had first ever coil fitted last year post-divorce but periods had already changed and were coming more regularly ie every 30 days instead of anywhere from 28 to 60 days apart. But the last three months I've been bleeding around 3 weeks apart which is annoying.

Memory fog definitely an issue, as is concentration (or lack of!). Been relatively lucky with the lack of hot flushes but body temperature is definitely harder to regulate - does anyone else sleep with their legs out of the covers ?! Grin

Hopefully I will be like my mum and grandma and have a fairly easy time - my diet is good, not much meat, I'm not overweight, I exercise almost every day, so I'm hoping that will be OK! Would love to know if anyone has any vitamins/minerals they can recommend?

Does anyone else sleep with their legs out of the covers?

I can't sleep if my feet are covered up Grin

Bekabeech · 28/11/2018 13:09

I've tended to sleep with legs outside the covers for a while now.

The thing it feels most like to me is reverse adolescence - hence my weirdest symptom:
wait for it....
dirty fingernails
I always had dirty finger nails as a child, but they stopped as I grew up, but now I keep having them again - and I haven't taken up gardening...I'm sure its all linked.

I also have low Thyroid - which is the cause of a lot of my symptoms - could it be why I don't suffer with insomnia much, it's just like an off switch. I am warmer than I was (just like being a child), but don't think I really have hot flushes.

Jasonmendoza · 28/11/2018 13:24

@misscockerspaniel could I ask how much you paid for the scan and where you had this done please?

gladiatorgirl · 28/11/2018 13:44

I too am interested to know how much a DEXA scan costs.
I took HRT for years to control horrendous hot flushes. It worked a treat but when I stopped taking the pills my symptoms came back just as bad, so back on the HRT for a few more years then I gradually reduced the dose till I was off them completely. I'm 67 now and still get the odd hot flush 5 years later. And still not sleeping well. In my opinion HRT just delays the inevitable.

superstarburst · 28/11/2018 14:27

If you google your local private hospital maybe it'll tell you the cost of DEXA scans? Mine's around £140 plus same again for the consultation so nearly £300 total.

abacucat · 28/11/2018 14:55

Watched this. Have had almost every symptom going, but seem to be coming out the other side now.
I take black cohosh mentioned in the programme.
But if any man mentions male menopause to me, I will unleash the RAGE. Because really!!

abacucat · 28/11/2018 14:58

Agree about HRY just delaying symptoms often. Have seen this happen with friends.
Forgot to say that I was really surprised about the programme pushing the message that we are all embarrassed about it and don't talk about it. Myself and friends going through this do talk about it a lot. Are we rare then?

misscockerspaniel · 28/11/2018 15:31

Jasonmendoza

I live in Jersey and the dexa scan cost about £80 which seems to be cheaper than the UK. The radiographer went through the results with me, there and then, and gave me advice. They also sent the results to my GP, so I also had a consultation with him. Here, we pay for GP appointments, so I had his cost as well. But I think all women who are menopausal should have one. Seeing the results in black and white brings you up sharp and has really motivated me to take action. I don't want to end up like my mum and gran.
