I like the melodic slightly melancholy ones. Something in a minor key maybe?

I just thought of another one I don't think I've seen mentioned so far. It is called Love Shone Down. Struggling to find decent recordings of it, though I do like this version.

And how about Would I Miss the Miracle.

You really can't go far wrong at Christmas. A good singer or choir and I get choked up and teary.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius Bogoro is amazing to perform

I channel Red from Orange is The New Black!!

Maybe I should try and sing again... this thread has inspired me!

@Bubblysqueak - a link to a complete performance of the Bach Magnificat I mentioned yesterday.

foxyknoxy30 · 28/11/2018 13:59

I love the Christmas version of from a distance by bette midler

Bubblysqueak · 28/11/2018 15:54

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius you are brilliant, that was the one I was thinking of! It's taken 3 years but I've finally been able to listen to it again, thank you!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/11/2018 15:56

I am so glad!! It was your malificent clue that did it.

twosoups1972 · 28/11/2018 16:11

This one - Star Carol

I find the slow ones boring.

nevermorelenore · 28/11/2018 16:36

I’m surprised not to see Balulalow. Maybe it’s not a very popular one. We’d sing it every year in choir.

DwangelaForever · 28/11/2018 16:57

Ever since I watched the crown in the bleak midwinter makes me cry!

CoraPirbright · 28/11/2018 17:01

How funny Dwangela I was just about to come on here and suggest Balulalow!! This and Spotless Rose are my all time favourites. Hauntingly beautiful.

scaryteacher · 28/11/2018 17:36

Most medieval ones, and Every Star Shall Sing A Carol.

FranKatzenjammer · 01/12/2018 12:31

I'm a choir director and I've really enjoyed this thread. Here are some lovely pieces which I don't think have been mentioned yet:

O magnum mysterium- Tomas Luis de Victoria (especially when sung by Westminster Cathedral Choir)
Libera's version of Wessex Carol
Here is the little door- Herbert Howells
Lully, lulla- Kenneth Leighton
What child is this?
Of the Father's heart begotten

and a few beautiful secular Christmas songs:

I will cry at Christmas- Denim
A snowflake fell (and it felt like a kiss)- Glasvegas
2000 miles- The Pretenders

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 01/12/2018 12:34

Oh Holy Night. I especially love the Celine Dion version Blush m.youtube.com/watch?v=_sEP5_7DMu0

yawning801 · 01/12/2018 12:36

Another one for O Holy Night, and there's a particular version of O Little Town of Bethlehem that I like, I'm not sure where it's from though. Also love Carol of the Bells.

RomanyRoots · 01/12/2018 13:42

This one.

BiscuitofChoice · 01/12/2018 13:47

I vote for Oh Holy Night too.

There's also something about Away in a Manger which I love.

WraithBabe · 01/12/2018 14:49

@FranKatzenjammer - I never thought I would see the day when Denim would be mentioned on Mumsnet!!

FranKatzenjammer · 01/12/2018 16:42

@WraithBabe- perhaps we need a Lawrence appreciation thread. There must be more than two of us!

Hesperatum · 01/12/2018 17:00

O Holy Night sung by Josh Groban

Mary Did You Know sung by Pentatonix or Jordan Smith

TroyKing · 01/12/2018 17:59

Silent Night sung in German.

Many different versions around, here's one

BellMcEnd · 01/12/2018 18:04

O Come O Come Emmanuel

Coventry Carol

O Holy Night

Love a good Christmas Carol!

FranKatzenjammer · 01/12/2018 18:07

Just realised that I meant Libera's version of Wexford Carol, not Wessex Carol!

Everincreasingfrequency · 09/12/2018 17:01

Has anyone mentioned Crown of Roses by tchaikovsky? wonderful.

Thanks for starting a great thread op - some of these are amazing discoveries, and ive also been reminded of some i'd forgotten - perfect!

TanginaBarrons · 09/12/2018 17:07
