Benefits when made redundant

Quick question - I know nothing about the way benefits are calculated, can someone in the know please tell me if someone who is made redundant and is looking for work, is still entitled to job seekers allowance (contributions based) without savings being taken into account for 6 months, as used to be the case 20 years ago (my last experience of claiming anything).
Many thanks

Contributions based is non means tested and you'll be entitled to it if you have made enough ni payments. Are you in a universal credit area?

naicepineapple · 26/11/2018 17:04

And yes 6 months

AnotherEmma · 26/11/2018 17:05

Yes that's correct

Depending on whether Universal Credit has been introduced in your area, you would apply for contributory JSA (old system) or "new-style JSA" (new system).

About £73/week for up to 6 months.

That is great thank you very much for fast replies...it is actually for my daughter who is being made redundant at Christmas. She is 24 and lives with us, so not expecting her to get anything other than JSA (or whatever it is called now). I have no idea if Universal credit has been rolled out here
