Boring baking question about Christmas cake

I made a Christmas cake yesterday and I want to store it for a few weeks so I can top it up with more booze. I bought a tin to keep it in but the cake won't fit in the bloody thing! It'll fit very snugly if it's unwrapped but once I wrap it in greaseproof paper and foil it's too big.

Can I put the cake directly into the tin and then wrap the tin itself in greaseproof and foil to protect it?

Or can I trim the cake to make it small enough to fit in the tin while wrapped?

You can just wrap it in greaseproof and tin foil. It won't need w tin if the wrapping is secure.

That's good to know, I was worried I'd do that and it would go mouldy or stale

As long as it’s completeky cooled you’ll be fine with a layer of grease proof paper and a layer of tin foil.

Mine is just wrapped and sitting on top of a cupboard.

The sugar and the alcohol will make it keep well!
