FLU jab young children

Wasn't sure were to post this tbh, my daughter has the flu vaccine this week and I was fine with her having it (she has no medical problems but is starting nursery) then I told a friend about it and she starts talking about all these conspiracy theory's and how a nurse in America quit her job because she gave a young boy the vaccine and he ended up with autism! I know most stories are a load of rubbish but some must have some truth behind them !!

Now I'm on the fence whether to cancel the appointment or not, I'm also having the flu jab but Iv had it before and was fine, obviously I'm just a lot more protective over my DD's health, how did your child react to the vaccine this year ??

No, there’s no truth behind vaccines causing autism, the evidence clearly shows this.

Conspiracy theories do not mean there ‘must be some truth in it’ otherwise you end up believing all sorts of crap. Fake news is a big problem.

Think logically. How on Earth could a flu vaccination give a child autism?

My ds had the flu last year, he was too young for the vaccination.

For 2 weeks my 16month old was so hot at points that he was shaking, he could hardly keep his eyes open, barely ate, was sick all over the bed during the night several times, had bad nappies constantly. The only thing I could do for him was alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen and try to get him to sip water. I had to keep him stripped down to his nappy at night as I was keeping him in the bed with me, I was terrified he'd choke on his sick. His skin was boiling but he obviously felt cold and he kept crying and trying to cuddle against me.
It was awful.

Do you want to risk your child going through that because some idiot told you a made up story?

"I know most stories are a load of rubbish but some must have some truth behind them !!"

His do you know this?

Can you produce any peer reviewed academic papers which support that 'truth'?

Yes, there can be side effects from vaccines. They need to be scaled against the risks of having the disease.

There is a massive body of peer-reviewed evidence showing no link between vaccines and autism. Are you really saying that all those scientists are in on a big conspiracy?

Your child will not get autism from the flu vaccine.

The autism scare was from the MMR vaccine and has been thoroughly debunked as fake science. Wakefield, who wrote the paper against the MMR Vaccine has made a lot of money off gullible hippy dippy types, conspiracy theorists and nut jobs. Total charlatan.

ToastedSandwichObsession · 26/11/2018 08:34

If your child is autistic it will already be present. It's not a jab for young children, it's a nasal spray. Flu is the worst, I've had it twice in my life, my parents had it last year and they were incredibly poorly. Get them vaccinated.

And don't listen to the conspiracy theorists, they are mad.

HJWT · 26/11/2018 09:03

Thanks for all of the reply's! I know she isn't going to get autism that's the story I meant being a load of rubbish! What I mean is he anyone's child become unwell for a short time after the vaccine x

Some vaccinations can cause a slight immune response (dont know if the current flu vaccination does) but it's nowhere near as bad as the flu.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 26/11/2018 10:38

One of my kids was slightly unwell after a vaccination as a baby. I can’t remember which child or which jab but it wasn’t flu.

All three of mine have had the flu one every year - they’re in year 5 and 2 now. Never had any adverse reaction at all. Little one doesn’t like the nasal spray as it makes his nose drip but that’s it.

Give some calpol if your child is feeling a bit unwell or hot afterwards. But they’re unlikely to.

@DianaPrincessOfThemyscira thank you x

From what I understand, flu vaccine and mmr jab has been associated (incorrectly) with autism only because the age the jab is given to children is around a similar age to when autism is on the road to being diagnosed. Under 2 ish, it’s not always that easy to spot autism ie speech development, understanding, tantrums etc all are very much varied in kids that age.
