Mountain Buggy Duet

Looking for thoughts on this push chair, or alternative suggestions? DS will be 15 months when DC2 is born, so need a pushchair that will be suitable for both. Need to be able to get on & off London buses (wide ‘back’ door). Many thanks!

I know loads of twin mums who have the duet and love it. I’ve got the Nano duo which is lighter and folds to nothing. The wheels are much smaller so it’s no good for rough terrain but otherwise I love it. It has very deep seats so my three year old (and six year were she allowed) fit into it no problem. Fits along side another big buggy on the bus no problem and just about through my very narrow front door. Collapses in seconds once you have the knack. Easy to push with a one year old and three year old. I can’t comment on the carrycots though as I bought it when my twins were 7 or 8 months.

Brilliant, thanks Gunpowder, I’ll check out the Nano duo too.

Yes, I have it and like it. Fine getting on and off buses. Not just London ones either. We moved from London when DC2 was a few months and it goes on buses that only have a front door easily as well.

Hello - another Londoner here and I’ve got the MB Duet (although would be an old version now). I’m on and off buses with it several times a week and it’s perfectly do-able, though depending on where the down pole is in the wheel-chair accessible space it can be hard to fit the Duet and a single in which can mean you may miss a bus or two depending on the time of day you are travelling. I got mine 2nd hand and very quickly changed the wheels to the hard ones as I couldn’t be doing with punctures! I had the ‘carrycot/converts to parent-facing seat’ as well in the early days which I liked although it’s not that big so depending on the size of your baby they may not be in it long. I love that it’s slim enough to get through most door spaces - there are a couple of doors that I get through fine where friends with the Bugaboo Donkey don’t. It folds ok, the basket is ok (easier to get to in some configurations than others). I don’t like the fact that on my version at least you have to take the main seat off to put on the car seat adaptors so it’s not an easy swap travel system (they may well have improved that though). However there is no getting round the fact that it is a monster (like most doubles side-by-side), and it is pretty heavy. It’s been perfect for what I’ve needed but I have twins and an older one who wasn’t 3 when they were born so had a buggy board on the back as well. On a nursery run day I now use a single and have one twin in there and one in a sling (we look quite a sight!), but that’s because it’s a pretty short journey (5 stops on the bus) and I like the flexibility of knowing I’m guaranteed to get on the bus (can fold the lightweight single if needed). Depending on the length of your journey and how you are with slings I really wouldn’t rule out a single buggy if you have one that lies flat for newborns, with a buggy board (maybe one with a seat) and you can swap the kids around between that and a sling (particularly if the older one still needs a nap). If we’re out for any length of time I still take the double with me but that is mostly I think because I have the 2 who though walking still need to be contained! Other side-by-side options I considered were BabyJogger City and the Out and About Nipper - they all looked fine, it was just the Duet came up second hand when I was looking so that’s the one I went with. Right, massive essay over! Good luck with it all.

I struggled to decide between that and the nipper double 360 as they are both a similar width, went for the nipper in the end as the outlet site had them on brand new for very cheaply, I love it! I'm a childminder and it's been amazing. Pushes beautifully and I will be buying the cot for number 2 who is due in April as my DD will be 2.5 then so still in need of it. Definitely worth looking at as well.
I was eyeing up an older style mountain buggy duet today actually, lovely buggies. I prefer the mountain buggy's basket, much much more easily accessible compared to the nipper, though the seats look slightly smaller and the seats in the nipper are quite skinny as it is. My big 2yo fits but I've had a big 3yo in it before and he looked properly squished.

I had one, I really liked it. At the time (?possibly still is) it was the slimmest side-by-side on the market, slimmer than the nipper and much slimmer than the bugaboo donkey. I had a Donkey first and there were doors I couldn't get through but the MB duet could get through fine. I used mine until the kids were 2.5 / nearly 4, although admittedly the 4 year old was quite slim!

And it fitted on London buses - once we got a bus where there was us in our MB duet and two other single buggies somehow?! but normally we could fit in with another single. The wheel base is actually comparable to some of the larger single prams anyway.

Thank you Smile I haven't heard of the Nippers, will take a look.
