Hi,
I have YouTube in the gym when I go on the treadmill. Can anyone recommend educational and interesting things to watch?

I tried posting this in Streamed TV but got no replies.

I guess it depends on what you like to watch really as there's so much on there.

I've experienced things I'll never experience in real life via YouTube like train journeys and I've seen places I'd have loved to have gone to and now won't. I've listened to books on there as well as watched films.

You can watch lectures recorded at Yale University, and I think University College London, and I think there is a palaeontologist from Utah University that does recorded lectures.

I'm keen on history so I've recently been dipping into The Study of Antiquity and the Middle Ages www.youtube.com/channel/UCxRSpkGOH_09pxKvgD8S5jQ

If you want irritating life hacks there is Jansens DIY.

King of Random is quite fun www.youtube.com/channel/UCxRSpkGOH_09pxKvgD8S5jQ and has weird stuff.

My son always seems to be able to find things about science. PBS seem to have a few things, so does the BBC with snippets from eg Strictly.

I've also been listening to an old book about Norse myths being read, and I think there are a few audio books.

What do you like?

I'm thinking about educational programmes Becca, probably documentaries or very good TED talks.

Meckity - thanks. I realise I have to be more specific, but it's very difficult to say what I'm interested in. History, only up to a point and definitely not antiquity.
I've already lost quite a bit of my life watching life hack videos that aren't very good...

Search for names of some of the people you are interested in or a series you have seen. They will usually follow on to more similar. I have Netflix for this but on the odd occasion I run out that's what I do. Neil degrasse Tyson and his inexplicable universe series is good. However, to get better results at the gym I'd suggest fast tempo music...

The TED talks are quite good.

English Heritage has a channel (how to make a cake the Victorian way), as does Tesco.

I've watched knitting videos, sewing tutorials, how to sell on ebay, grocery hauls, gordon ramsey, and cooking shows.

If you like David Attenborough, there are lots of his documentaries.

There is all sorts on there. My son was watching nerf gun battles and people hiding in supermarkets overnight.

I'll shut up now

I've seen plenty of documentaries on YouTube. Search for whatever your interested in and have a look.

I'm interested in history and have seen some fasinating stuff on there, likewise areas of law, gardens and engineering I'm interested in. There aren't many subjects that aren't on there.

I'm sorry if my reply was too general for you, I wasn't sure what sort of thing you were interested in.

TED talks cover everything you could possibly conceive of, and much more

If you like (ancient) history, Bettany Hughes is awesome

Gwenhwyfar · 26/11/2018 21:20

Elder - I suppose the music would need to have a beat that exactly matches my speed though?
I think I'd get bored with just music actually, which is why I'm looking for programmes.
Thanks for your suggestions everyone.
