I'm new here and wasn't sure where to post this so apologies if it's not where it should be lol
I have a 6 year old daughter who lost her front teeth last summer, I noticed that they were coming in a strange colour. The bottom part is white, looks like a layer of plaque and then the rest is just normal coloured new teeth like a yellowy colour (hope I'm making sense). I've took her to a couple of dentists who said it could be from a fall she had when she was little and the teeth were still developing or a condition called flourosis, he said it's a cosmetic issue but she's still to young to have anything done about it. I feel like an absolutely awful parent, like I've made this happen. I had no idea that there was a condition called flourosis and it never ever occurred to me at all. I don't want this to affect my daughter's self esteem, and was wondering if there's any product I could use until she's older and would be able to get teeth whitening or whatever else they do. I heard a lady speak about a teeth paint that she used on her child, can't remember where I read that, but anyway just something to help in the mean time. I really appreciate everyone's time in reading this.

My dd has this on 2 front teeth. When she was younger she smashed her milk teeth and the permanent teeth come thru like this. All we have been advised by our dentist when she is older they will whiten her teeth if she really isn't happy but tbh we are used to it and never notice it and no one else has ever mentioned it

It could be a couple of things from what you've said but most likely flourosis.

If it is it is purely cosmetic, not a big issue in terms of her teeth health, better fluorosis than decay. I really wouldn't touch them until she's older. Anything you do could risk damaging them, especially if not done by a dentist. There's not really any effective cosmetic solution in a child. When she's older if they were my teeth I'd probably leave them but you could try tooth whitening or veneers I guess. Neither of which I would do until someone is at least 18.

You haven't been a bad parent, it's just a discolourment of her teeth you haven't damaged them and there's many many reasons why someone could get this type of thing on their teeth. Think of it like a freckle or a birth mark, you wouldn't beat yourself up if your child had a birth mark. Lots if children have white spots on their teeth, I doubt anyone but you and maybe DD will even notice

Thanks a lot for your replies. The freckle and birth mark comment has really helped, I never thought of it in that way before.
