I have a new manager at work. He seems nice and intelligent etc He is new to the company, He is new to the sector and has no line management experience. Therefore, he has a lot to learn to get up to speed, so i was very much expecting to help with this. He is trying to find his feet etc.

But he seems overly focused on 'managing' me. He keeps explaining things to me, that i explained to him in the first place!! If i disagree with him, he thinks it is because i dont understand. If i am telling him about processes/background etc, he always starts explaining why it is as it is (from his pov)..never thinks my critique/opinion is valid. I have been doing my job for 4 years!!
Last week he tried to send me to a meeting that has nothing to do with our area. Relevent people are already attending. Why didnt he just ask me what the meeting was and whether we needed to attend, as he obviously didnt know?! He doesnt apply planning but questions my estimations for tasks (whilst having no experience of doing said tasks, himself)

Anyway...i am just not sure how to deal with this???! Just endure until he gets up to speed??? Move on?? What would you do?

I have talked to him about it a couple of times, but it continues

If he’s ignoring you, do you have a good relationship with anyone mentoring him who you could have a “quiet word” with? This sounds like you’ve done the professional, tried to discuss it with him thing andbeen ignored. You can either fix it or leave now imho.

Yeah, his now boss was my temporary line manager for about a year, until he was recruited. I have been to her once when he was mistakenly prioritising 1 task over another. He seemed to think it was a matter of opinion and kept explaining over and ovee, his reasons. I had to practically plead with him to consult management. It wouldnt be such an issue, if it didnt interfere with my ability to meet my deadlines

If your solutions are endure or leave and you don’t want to leave, you will have to endure Grin.

Is there anyone ‘else’ there you trust that you can speak to?

Speak to your old line mandger, ask for help.

Unfortunately, there is no magic cure for a boss like this. I was in the same position a few years ago. I was more than happy to teach this guy but ended up being micro-managed by him. I tried speaking to other managers and told 'well, he is your manager now', eventually spoke to the CEO, but it was turned around on me. I ended up walking out.
