I'm at Uni and we were told to by Winsor & Newtons Designer Gouache. It's lovely to work with and 'Gouache is watercolour’s opaque cousin, bringing flat, brilliant colours most often used in design and illustration.' You can often buy small multi packs that are cheaper than buying them separately. Have you also looked at Derwent watercolour pencils, these are also really nice to use as well.

Thankyou - would you use gouache on paper? Sorry - totally clueless. I bought her faber castell colouring pencils before.

Do you know if you DD uses Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolour paint, or the professional range? There’s a big difference in quality between the two, so if she uses Winsor and Newton Cotman paint, it may be an idea to get her some professional quality paint.

Daniel Smith do a lovely set of six colours: www.jacksonsart.com/daniel-smith-watercolour-paint-sets

This combination of colours would allow your DD to mix pretty much any colour she wants. And even though the tubes may seem tiny, they last for a very long time.

Ugh, just realised the link goes to a number of different sets 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s the essential set that would be most versatile!

She uses the solid block watercolours i think.

Inktense water soluble ink pencils are fun, easy to use, relatively inexpensive and you can work wet over dried colour and it doesn’t bleed. You can use them on fabrics as well as paper

I am not sponsored by Inktense...I just LOVE them

I keep my travelling half pans in a tiny peppermint tin which makes me stupidly happy
