Win a holiday at Center Parcs Longleat! Anyone else got this all over Facebook?

It’s a total con and utter bull but the amount of people sharing a post for a web page that my internet provider actually blocks because it’s unsafe is ridiculous! It’s a page that has two posts on it and apparently the CEO himself is in the picture. Quick google reveals nothing.

Why are people so fished in! There must be at least 12 people I know that have done it.

I know! My very smart sister has shared it 🙄. I normally just out a “this is a scam” on the post.

fruityb · 25/11/2018 10:49

I have as well - it’s people who should really know better!

Yes both MIL and cousin have shared it, I can still see the FB posts even though it says on the official CP FB page that it's nothing to do with them and it's been removed.

So what is the point? I assume there are no free holidays? Data harvesting?

trinitybleu · 25/11/2018 10:52

That's not even the name of the CEO.... Baffles me how few people click through and just check the Facebook page.... 1 post ever. Yeah, that's legit.

BewareOfDragons · 25/11/2018 10:52

All over mine as well.

Ridiculous.

And the 'CEO' pictured is not the CEO of Center Parcs ... so easy to figure out just be typing that in to a search engine... if the 'new' fb page wasn't obvious enough.

fruityb · 25/11/2018 10:59

No one seems to have noticed the new FB page between the last offer the other day and the new one after the winner didn’t contact them apparently!

And no that’s not the CEO is it lol.

The old page required you to register your details on a page - it’ll be data harvesting I’m sure.

Sorry for being dim, but how do you know it's a scam? Loads of people are sharing

guiltynetter · 25/11/2018 11:16

yes. my brother in law has shared it about 5 times, and on the last one wrote ‘pick me pick me!’ i couldn’t bare it any longer so i commented it was a scam. it happens all the time!

maketeanotwar you can usually tell because the page itself isn’t official (doesn’t have a blue tick) and it has no previous posts apart from these ‘win a holiday’ ones. also a big giveaway is when they say the previous winner didn’t respond 🙄

fruityb · 25/11/2018 11:23

There are no posts on the page other than the holiday ones and if you click the link it’s marked as unsafe by Virgin. Just rings alarm bells. Plus that’s not the CEO.

Gave up telling friends a day or two ago. Even the photo is just a stock image with different company names photoshopped on the envelopes.

You know its a scam because center parcs don't give anything away for free Grin

TheSmallAssassin · 25/11/2018 12:23

You can also tell its a scam by noticing that the domain name for the url doesn't match with the usual Centerparcs one (I did a whois look up, but you can just Google Centerparcs UK and see that it's completely different)

I usually check to see how long the page has been up, what else it has posted, if it's all giveaways it's probably a scam.

I've reported the page to Facebook too.

chicken2015 · 25/11/2018 12:54

I found this weird too, i guess it shows how little people take notice of things, so important to have critial thinking with everything

chicken2015 · 25/11/2018 12:55

Also ceo for center parcs is not the person on it i just posted the pic of ceo name i googled

IceRebel · 25/11/2018 12:58

also a big giveaway is when they say the previous winner didn’t respond

Oh god THIS!!! It annoys me so much when people get sucked into obvious scams, but this comment riles me up more than most.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 25/11/2018 12:58

Yes, I see them posted every now and then but I've seen loads of posts this time

fruityb · 25/11/2018 13:03

The posts asking for details to be registered on a site have now appeared. I’ve sent that picture to a few people now - thanks for that. Someone else has also posted a page that shows it’s all nonsense. Hopefully people will listen.

Sadly if it looks to good to be true then it usually is!

PatriciaHolm · 25/11/2018 13:12

The technique is used a lot - a new Facebook page with just one or 2 posts, and the requirement to enter your details.

It's a scam in 2 ways - gets your details for future spamming, plus creates a busy Facebook page with lots of likes that can be sold on to the highest bidder.
