Would you buy a present?

My sister’s birthday. She’s arranged for a group of us to go to the theatre. The tickets are £55 each, so £110 for me and DP. Other guests are our parents and some of DSis’ friends who are a bit better off than us.

Would you also buy a birthday present, or do you think buying our own theatre tickets is enough? (I’m sure I will enjoy the show but we wouldn’t be going if it wasn’t for dsis) . It’s not a big number.

I would buy her a gift to open too, for my sister that would be a box of her favourite chocolates.

PurpleDaisies · 24/11/2018 23:51

Yes but probably just something small.

I can’t understand how the visit to the theatre is connected to her birthday? There are 2 options for me: you are taking her to the theatre ( and pay for her ticket) or she is taking you ( and pay for your tickets).
There is another one that all of you wanted to go to the theatre

Sorry, pressed post accidentally
So All of you want to go to the theatre anyway so you are going together and then go for a meal or something.
By the way will she travel to yours or you to hers for this?

empmalswa · 25/11/2018 00:03

Well yes because I can't see how this is a gift to her?

Thank you for your replies!

We all live in the same town so no one is travelling far.

She wants to go to the theatre to celebrate her birthday. It’s not my cup of tea but I’m sure it will be good and I’m going to go for her. We will definitely buy her a drink as well.

We would normally spend about £30 on a gift.

How easily could you afford the visit to the theatre ? It’s the main question.
If it’s a big spent for you I just will do a token gift: box of her favourite chocolates or something funny like coaster with a slogan, or put together some of your childhood photos, print them out and buy a frame. It depends on your sister really. It would be photos for my sister, chocolates for me.

greenlynx · 25/11/2018 01:19

I did a frame with photos as a present for a relative recently, all together cost me less than £5, looked really nice and was well received.
I know that my sister would expect a present in this situation but a small memorable one would be ok.

I would get her a token. You don't have to go to the theatre. I wouldn't spend 30 quid on it though.
