Why does Mumsnet hate Femfresh?

NellieBee · 24/11/2018 22:45

For years I've read how awful femfresh is.

However, after pure desperation to get rid of repetitive thrush (9 times in a year, horrendous) I tried it on my GPs recommendation six months ago and haven't had it once since.

Two weeks ago I ran out and decided not to buy anymore and lo and behold, boom, thrush city once again. I've now bought more and frankly don't think I'll ever risk being without it again!

Is it really the devils work? Isn't it just a very gentle soap?

What did you use before you started using femfeesh?

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2018 22:47

*femfresh

NuzzleandScratch · 24/11/2018 22:49

Well I'm a fan, and not afraid to admit it! Been using it for years! Grin

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2018 22:49

Sorry that may sound like an odd question!

I’m glad the femfresh worked for you but I don’t think most people need it. I use Sanex and I’ve never had any issues.

ElideLochan · 24/11/2018 22:49

Your gp said to use femfresh???
Mine said stay well clear as it's full of bad stuff and to use washes like sanex or any unperfumed

notpushyinterested · 24/11/2018 22:51

What did you use instead?
If you use anything other than plain water , that's what's causing the thrush.
Literally clean plain water is all you need.

Emma145 · 24/11/2018 22:53

My midwife told me to buy it after I had my son she said it would help with the stitches..not sure if it did but I still use it!

NellieBee · 24/11/2018 22:56

I always washed only with water down there. Then I tried Sanex (which I use on the rest of my body) and it made no difference. Nothing was shifting the thrush which I kept getting straight after my period til I tried the femfresh.

I guess everyone's body is slightly different so just as different products will work on different parts it's the same for vulvas/vaginas.

I have never tried femfresh and I find the product name quite revolting.

I wash with water.

I've never had thrush.

Racecardriver · 24/11/2018 23:01

I think it’s the idea that vaginas are dirty and need cleaning that people don’t like (which is pretty much the basis of the products advertising). I’m glad you found something that works. Thrush is horrible.

aCityOrAriver · 24/11/2018 23:01

I wash with soap, always have. Never had thrush.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 24/11/2018 23:06

I think the point is that frequently it’s products like this that are actually causing the thrush rather than solving it. But good that it’s worked for you. Afraid I can’t get on board with a product that is so obviously targeted at making women and girls paranoid about how they smell down there.

differentnameforthis · 24/11/2018 23:14

Because you don't need it and the idea that woman's natural scent and ability is somehow wrong pisses me off. Like we can only be "fresh" if we smell artificial.

I used to get thrush a lot. So I started using different products until I found a brand that didn't give me thrush. I also use reusable sanpro if possible.

differentnameforthis · 24/11/2018 23:16

ability to self clean

NellieBee · 24/11/2018 23:16

I just got a fantastic private message. Gotta love trolls. It said:

Excuse me!!!:

  1. I do not come on Mumsnet to read about your cauliflower fanny.
  2. Try having a bath or shower, you disgusting melt.
And 3. Femfresh IS a wonderful product to be fair!! I think your doctor needs to have a word with himself though, he probably hoped you'd be back to look up you like a telescope. You may have a STI with the amount of thrush you have, Bill Oddy hasn't seen as much thrus in his life time as you have in last 6 months!! #checkyourselfbeforeyouwreckyourself.

Properly lolling!

Nellie what sanitary products do you use for your period because that sounds like the cause of it each time.

The issue with femfresh is I don't think there is a dickwash equivalent in the next aisle at the supermarket. That vulvas should smell artificially perfumed to make them acceptable.

Sanex would probably be much kinder, but change your sanpro to see if that stops the underlying issue.

donajimena · 24/11/2018 23:19

Seriously? What a fucking twat

Iloveeating · 24/11/2018 23:21

@NellieBee I hope you reported them! What an awful message to get.

NellieBee · 24/11/2018 23:26

Not sure how to report, but I blocked them.

I always use a mooncup. Tried switching to tampons- no difference- then sanitary pads, which made it much worse.

I'm allergic to loads of stuff. I've never used femfresh but I have to iliminate all the stuff from my life that sets me off.

These include all soaps, certain shower gels, certain washing detergents, most fabric softeners and scented sanitary towels.

You'll probably find if you locate the sourse you won't need the femfresh, but if its working for you then crack on.

NellieBee · 25/11/2018 22:33

I'm tempted to try and stop using it again in six months and see if it happens again
