Turning my head to thinking about our family sunmer holiday next year and considering Eurocamp or Yelo and hoping for some recommendations as there are literally hundreds to choose from. 2 adults, 2 DC age 5 and 3 and probably France, maybe Italy and ideally not more than an hour or so from am airport.

We have been to the Berny Rivière in France twice when my boys were younger and we all loved it
Have been to Duinrell in Holland 4 times and would definitely go back
We went both with Eurocamp and canvas x

BErny Rivière - akaLa Croix du Vieux Pont - is fabulous.

So many happy family memories from there.

Will second Duinrell in Holland. We have been three times in the past five years. It's around 45 mins from airport. Has a great swimming complex onsite with loads of good slides at a discounted rate, a theme park which is free and is a 5 minute walk into Waasenaar town which is very pretty.

Only potential downside could be weather - our first visit, in September, was a bit on the rainy side but last two years, during summer holidays, has been scorchio x

Yelloh Village la Plage near Gullvinec in Brittany has the most epic beach. The area is lovely. We've been 3 times with our DCs at different ages.

I’d drive there, not fly, but love La Grande Metairie in Carnac. Nice sized site (not as big as, say, Domaine des Ormes), great swimming pool options, pony rides, play areas, options for older children I’ve not looked at, lovey area for beaches and getting out and exploring.

Thank you everyone for these suggestions. Will start working my way through them! Any tips 're accommodation? It is worth paying extra for a chalet where offered or are the canvas tents pretty comfortable?

I like my own toilet on my main holiday, so whilst I don’t mind camping at other times of the year, it’s non negotiable for when ‘ve Been away. YMMV...

We have stayed in various accommodation
We stayed in one of the wooden canvas lodges at berny riverie
It was nice but we were there in July and there was a heatwave So lodge got very very hot since it’s wooden
Been to basic Eurocamp mobile homes
Too basic and small
I would always go for a newer bigger mobile home x

Static caravan fan here.

BluebirdHill · 25/11/2018 20:34

NoUnicorns hijacking but what's Domaine Des Orms like ifyou know it?

TokyoSushi · 25/11/2018 20:39

Another vote for Duinrell here, such a beautiful surrounding area too!

Domaine de la Brèche, near Saumur in the Loire Valley. Fantastic site that has a large number of Eurocamp pitches.

LePetitPont · 25/11/2018 20:45

We went to la garangeoire in the Vendee this September with a 1 and 4 year old and loved it. Big playground, walking trails in the forest, decent pool complex. You had to drive to a beach but the little lagoon on site was ace!

Alex3101 · 25/11/2018 20:47

I'll second Domaine de la Breche in the Loire valley. It's a great site, we were there this summer and will book to go back.
Also La Plage or La Baie near Trinitie Sur Mare are really nice. La Plage is a small site but both are right on the beach and Trinitie Sur Mare is really nice little town. It's also really close to Carnac and other places.

Srsly · 25/11/2018 20:48

Bluebird I've been to Domaine Des Ormes.

It was very big, but we went in June, sort of out of season and it was fine for us with two small kids. We were right on the edge of the site which was a godsend as I think it would have been too noisy towards the middle of the site.

I imagine in high season it would have been much too busy for us. But out of season it was fine. Good facilities and we'll staffed. We had a great time.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/11/2018 20:50

Biarritz Euro camp was lovely. Not far from airport and passes for public bus meant we didn’t need a car

NoUnicornsToSeeHere · 25/11/2018 21:18

As Srsly says, DDO is huge, we too went in June but it wouldn’t suit me in summer holidays (which we would have to do now). It is more like a self contained holiday village than the campsites-with-lots-Of-facilities which I prefer. They make a big thing about their pools but I found the indoor fun one cold and too much rock “scenery” at water level which was a head banging risk for my then three year old, and the outdoor wave pool was less fun too. However the area it is in is lovely. I could imagine going with teenagers, perhaps leaving them on site for some of the activities and escaping as adults to the nearby area.

Givemestrengthorgin · 26/11/2018 07:58

Thanks everyone for all these suggestions. We would prefer somewhere not too huge and we are also dictated by school holidays now although we are in Scotland so planning to go before the English schools break up. Will keep researching all these places mentioned.
