How good are you at calculus?

Just curious how familiar people are with calculus?

A) didn’t ever learn it
B) some conceptual knowledge but don’t ask me to solve any problems
C) could probably solve problems after a brief refresh
D) univariate calculus only
E) multivariate calculus
F) I use calculus all the time, could do it in my sleep

I’m feeling so inadequate that I’m just a B, feels like I’m not really a proper adult.

I got a B in GCSE maths and don’t ever remember hearing the word ‘calculus’ outside of American tv, so I’m an A.

I don’t need to use anything other than basic maths for work.

Probably a C. Got a B in GCSE maths, but my school was shit and didn't even offer the higher tier. Did A Level maths and also got a B, was ok with that.

I don't agree with the sentiment that you have to have A's at GCSE to study further. My mate got an A* in maths at GCSE because her mam got her a tutor. She came out with an E at A level. Another girl who was a high flyer got a C in the end of first year tests and basically had a nervous breakdown. She ended up switching out of our group into a maths with statistics group, which was modular and reported to be easier.

I can definitely do maths, did an ou module and passed with flying colours. Do I understand the deeper meaning and affinities err nope.

There are very few adults I have met who I would bet on to have an understanding of calculus Grin

Why does this bother you?

A level trig was the one that did my nut in, cotangent and all that bollocks and trigonometric identities and equations that went on for a full page /triggered

C.

And that’s having spent 4 years getting a Masters in Physics. I’m very rusty now though, haven’t used those skills in 20 years.

I got an A in GCSE maths and didn't ever hear the word calculus. I understand now what the concept is but have no idea how to do it so I'm an A.

This thread is going to be very biased as most people who comment on it will do so because they are interested or know about calculus.
