Anyone have a Lumie bodyclock/ Philips Wake up light?

are they any good? DD is struggling with dark, winter mornings and one of her teachers was saying she has a Lumie one. There are so many different types and mixed reviews...

Can anyone recommend?

I have had one for about 4 years ( the clock radio version) and I also use Sleepcycle app, together they wake me up gently. The concept now of being woken up suddenly by an alarm is totally alien.

I would say that our Lumie 250 requires a degree to programme. DH has absolutely no clue how it works 😂

I got the lumie bodyclock last Christmas and absolutely love it. The sunrise wake up wakes me most mornings before my actual alarm goes off and it's definitely a much nicer way to waken up!

I had a Lumie years ago and thought it was amazing, until it died and I couldn't afford to replace it. So I've been using a standard alarm for years. I've recently bought the Phillips version and I don't think I'm being dramatic by saying it's changed my life

I can't stand being launched awake in the dark by an alarm. I feel sluggish and it takes me hours to get going. With the Phillips light, over the space of half an hour it starts off with a dark red glow, then orange, then yellow - steadily getting lighter and mimicking sunrise. It's lovely - I wake up gradually and it feels like a natural sunrise. Best of all, I wake up feeling refreshed and energetic.

It also has a sunset feature, which my old Lumie didn't have, and I like that a lot too, drifting into a restful peaceful sleep. It also plays nature sounds if you want it to.

The other thing I like is its midnight light - if you lightly double tap it, you get a low red glow - enough to see to get a drink or go to the loo.

I'm a fan - can you tell?

I’ve got one , it’s fab I am not a morning person and it really helps. I use the sunset feature. Only regret is not getting the version which had a radio

I'm someone that didn't get on with it. It did t usually wake me up before the alarm or make me feel any more energetic when I did wake up. Sold it on eBay. I think I'm just meant to hibernate for 4 months a year!

I couldn't get on with it either but luckily now I've no use for it. As someone said above the gradual light woke me before I needed to get up (I needed up at 5.00am) and before my backup mobile alarm went off. I think I'll try and sell on eBay.

I've had one for more than 10 years - love waking up to gentle light and the fade down feature.
First one was quite poorly made and 'died' after a couple of years but no problem with replacement.

I had one (the Philips variety). Hate the damn thing. Especially the fluttering birds. Still get irritated thinking about it.

I also have a lumie and use the sleep cycle app. They’re both great but I think it’s the sleep cycle app that has the most impact on how I feel whe. I wake up.

I have the simplest lumie and it’s AMAZING.

I used to be a grumpy confused mess when my alarm went off. Now when the lumie beeps I’m just “oh ok” as I’m almost awake anyway.

I've just bought a Lumie as I was really struggling with feeling low. I am not a morning person anyway, though I do find it easier to get up in the morning in summer. Have been really down since the clocks changed, struggling to get going in a morning and really teary. On a whim I decided to get one this week. I bought the cheaper of the two in Argos, about £55. I've had it three days but would say it has made a difference. This morning particularly, when the alarm went off it felt like it was time to get up, rather than waking up in the middle of the night. I haven't tried the sunset feature as DH is usually in bed before me (dairy farmer!).

One thing I would say is I had a cheapo one a few years ago which was rubbish - it wasn't very bright and didn't do the job. Def worth getting the real deal.

Can anybody recommend an app for those of us with a bit less liquidity right now?

The app I use is just called Sleep Cycle. It was free I think and does all kinds of interesting sleep analysis and wakes you up in your lighted sleep phase. It also records you snoring 😬

I have a lumie and love it. It’s been going for about 8 years now (changed the bulb for the first time last year after knocking it off my bedside table and it breaking!)

I really enjoy using both the sunrise and sunset features. The sound options are limited but you don’t have to use them.

I love mine.
Before it, I used to constantly fall back into deep sleep, then wake abruptly when the snooze ended. The light wakes me more thoroughly. Still need a shower to come to life but it is much better.

I have one for the children; it does nothing to help them wake up I'm afraid. Every morning I go into their room where it's lit up like a summer day courtesy of the Lucie and they're both fast asleep.

I've just got a second one. I originally bought one 13 years ago when starting a new job with a longer commute in the dark depths of January. The original is in the kids' room and it does help with my natural night owls. DS1 is awful to wake up and gets very sensitive if he wakes too abruptly. The phasing of the light is pleasantly gentle and we have had much better mornings through using it.

I've been finding it harder to wake in recent weeks so have bought a reduced one this week. It is a neater size and has more features than my original one.

Yes, a mid range Lumie. It's about 6 years old now. It was worth every penny.
I have my Lumie on one side and my clock radio set to radio 4 on the other. I don't bounce out of bed on dark winter mornings but they're far less painful these days.

My DD has a Lumie - she has was having trouble getting up for erratic very early shifts ie could quite easily turn off alarms ( plural, including on other side of room ) and go back to sleep and only respond to the later set back up ones ones and still be groggy . The Lumie brings her out of sleep gradually so that she is properly and pleasantly awake by the time she actually has to get out of bed. Time for breakfast and alert by the time she gets in the car. Would not be without it now.
