What do I want for Christmas?

I hate presents at all times. Most of my family do and for Xmas we do the goat thing.

DH and I have agreed to buy a picture together that we've seen so we're buying that together for each other.

SIL is visiting tomorrow and has asked for suggestions. I usually manage to come up with something but cannot be arsed right now racking my brains. I asked DH why I can't just ask for another goat and he thinks she'll be offended by that.

I don't really wear any make-up or jewellery so that's out. I don't use any expensive toiletries and hate being bought clothes. I don't like gadgets or perfume. I love to read and usually get away with book tokens for my birthday but might get rolled eyes for that this time.

What do you all want? I need an idea I can steal.

I am fucking awful to buy for which is exactly why a goat is perfect but apparently it's not a "proper" present.

Afternoon tea definitely
Primark's vouchers are by the tills
Beebombs
Dunhelm teddy fleece blanket for the sofa, or an electric heated blanket

MeVoila · 24/11/2018 10:42

If you genuinely don't like anything, and she genuinely HAS to buy you something, then ask for something that someone else might like and pass it on to them.
Scarf and gloves or warm jumper to a night shelter. Hot water bottle and cover to rough sleeper initiative. Toiletries to some food banks etc.

Can't you just ask for nicer versions of everyday stuff that you use?
Great kitchen knives, pots of the garden or luxury shower gel?

Thank you @MiddlingMum!

I wouldn't like to be asked to give to charity as a present. Ask for something you'd buy anyway and then use the money you'd save to make your own donation.

Even if it's something a bit (very) boring like a cleaning hamper full of all the things you'd use over a year... which the more I think about the more I'd like to receive myself 😂

Millipedewithherfeetup · 24/11/2018 11:13

Do you like flowers ? A subscription for a weekly delivery of fresh flowers ?

Millipedewithherfeetup · 24/11/2018 11:15

Or something really practical like paying for someone to clear your garden/clean your oven/paint your bedroom ??

AnoukSpirit · 24/11/2018 11:58

@bexcee Flowers I've posted on your thread.

You want a Joules voucher for some wellibobs.
Wellibobs are the best thing ever.
(No I'm not outdoorsy either but I like to be comfy when I go out in winter/rain)

DappledThings · 24/11/2018 13:32

I have Joules Wellibobs and they are indeed great!

dancingqueen345 Can I ask why you'd object to a charity donation if that's been requested? Does that apply only to Christmas? It's what we asked for for our wedding too. Would that have annoyed you?

I just can't get my head round why somebody needs to buy something tangible just for the sake of it and why, twice a year, it always has to be me who sucks it up and not the other party for once.

Charity for wedding is fine and lovely. I wouldn't like it for Christmas. That goat is £85 and lots of people like to get bargains for Christmas.

DappledThings · 24/11/2018 14:07

Oh there's lots of bargains in that catalogue. Goat is just an example. I tend to say "goat" as shorthand for anything from there. I once bought my Dad £10 of bull semen. There's plenty there to chose from.

Meadow in your garden website is your friend. Or Google seed bombs. Notonthehighstreet do them as well.

They do tins of wildflower seed balls and wildflower seed bombs which you simply throw.
Ask for a selection of this and disperse them in your garden, you'll get wildflowers for bees and butterflies. So an environmental gift, that helps the planet a bit and gets round the you not wanting a real gift.
(I give these as thank you gifts)
They also do boxes of seeds .. you could carry these and disperse flower seeds in local rough patches sort of guerilla gardening.

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/11/2018 14:30

Jeez, I wouldn't do the goat thing, the price is way out of my league! Shock

DappledThings · 24/11/2018 14:37

PhilomenaButterfly

I already said that was was a bad example. Lots of things there for a tenner.

PhilomenaButterfly · 24/11/2018 15:02

Sorry, I posted before I read that! Even a tenner's pushing it for me, I spend £20 on each of my DC I'm in contact with, buy a token present for DM because that's all she wants, and that's it.

DappledThings · 24/11/2018 15:27

Sounds like you'd not want to get me anything at all then PhilomenaButterfly. That's a win as far as I'm concerned!

I'd love to, but we can't afford it!
