Steam mop died and need to replace it (not necessarily with another steam mop) so want you hear what folk think is the best way and best tool for the job!

I use a Bona cleaner (the mop and the spray) on my tile and hardwood floors and it's fab.

I think you can get them on amazon.

CatOwned · 23/11/2018 15:33

This is so boring, but I just wash it with water from a bucket and soap and push it away. Dry after with an old cloth.

I live near to green spaces and it's the only way to remove all the dust.

IStandWithPosie · 23/11/2018 15:36

Hard floors vary in what works best tbh. Do your tiles have a texture or are they totally smooth? Are they high gloss? Do you have wood flooring? Laminate?

mommybear1 · 23/11/2018 17:44

Karcher FC5 best thing EVER floors actually squeak after use 😁

MiddlingMum · 23/11/2018 18:48

Hands and knees here, with a proper cloth old t shirt and a bucket of hot water with Stardrops in it.

You might like to get a kneeling pad from a garden shop though if you're going to do it regularly.

IStandWithPosie · 23/11/2018 19:20

I’ve just googled the karcher fc5. What a load of faffing! 3 different water receptacles some of it can go in dishwasher, some on washing machine and some you have to hand wash. All for a clean floor. No good for daily washing!

TulipsInbloom1 · 23/11/2018 19:22

A vileda spray mop with whatever disinfectant/cleaner I have to hand.

@IStandWithPosie I use mine twice daily it's no different really to a bucket is it? You fill a bucket - on the Karcher it's the clean water bottle- use the machine empty the dirt water bottle- as you would empty a bucket after using to mop and then pop the rollers in to wash - as you would a mop head - no difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

CherryPavlova · 24/11/2018 09:15

Ceramic floors are hoovered and mopped daily (generally) by us but cleaners steam clean weekly.
Oak floors are just hoovered. Any individual marks just washed over but, on the whole, it doesn’t need much.
Parquet is hoovered and then washed with wood soap. Polished annually.

Buddywoo · 24/11/2018 09:15

Just get an ordinary mop and bucket. Warm water and a squeeze of flash.

In spain where all the floors are tiled that's what everyone uses.

IStandWithPosie · 24/11/2018 09:16

How many rollers do you have and is it hot water? And do you not do the washing machine and dishwasher parts between washes?

TulipsInbloom1 · 24/11/2018 09:18

twice daily
Seriously? Do you work at the circus?

HotInWinter · 24/11/2018 09:20

I hoover and steam mop.
DH sweeps and then uses a bucket and mop. Floor dries faster after a steam mopping, but think DH gets a better finish.
My whole house is tiled tho - from the front door all the way to the ensuite and every room between. Elbow grease has never been on the cards!

IStandWithPosie · 24/11/2018 09:22

I would love tiles throughout.

Fairylea · 24/11/2018 09:24

Super hot water, mop and bucket and squirt of flash concentrated. Nothing else does the job as well and as cheaply.

justforareply · 24/11/2018 09:40

Karcher FC 5 here too
Sucks up the dirty water
Rub rollers with washing up liquid and water after and leave to dry or sometimes put in washing machine

HotInWinter · 24/11/2018 09:55

I'd happily never have a tiled bedroom again, Posie! Especially with young children.

DwangelaForever · 24/11/2018 10:05

I can't cope with my tiled floors, they are white (not my choice the previous owners) and never look clean (even 5 mins after steam mopping). If I use any product it leaves a residue on it and you can see mop lines, I'm at my wits end, we are selling up soon so I need to get on top of it to make it look nice and high glossy again Sad

mommybear1 · 24/11/2018 10:25

@TulipsInbloom1 sadly not DS1 has some health issues and everything on the floor goes in his mouth so mopping twice a day is the best I can do to help minimise any impact to him. Although in second thoughts it does feel like working in a circus here daily Grin

mommybear1 · 24/11/2018 10:31

@IStandWithPosie I initially just had the two that came with the machine but as it was so good I brought another two so I could use one set for the bathrooms (which I used to Flash mop and still do most of the time as it's a faff pilling the machine upstairs) and one for the kitchen/living areas. You can put in hot water. I hand wash the dirty water container after each use and rinse the rollers leave them to air dry. I only wash the rollers in the machine once a week and the other bits probably once a month or two?

BarbedBloom · 24/11/2018 10:40

Very hot water and method cleaning solution (I have cats). I used to use the stuff you just spray on the floor but found the floors never seemed really clean after. I do steam mop once a month too but it is such a faff as one end of my house doesn’t have any plugs for a long part of the hall and I need to get out the long extension cable each time

ForTheTimeBeing · 24/11/2018 10:45

I just bought the Leifheit 52019 Twist Disc Mop and love it for my tiled floors as it allows me to use plenty of water, which it mops up very quickly. My wooden floors I mainly hoover and occasionally go over them with a damp mop.

Grainger8 · 24/11/2018 11:21

FC5 here too - messy child and Springer spaniel to keep up with. I hoover every day and FC5 every 2-3 and it keeps up brilliantly. I love the fact that I don't have to hoover and FC5 on the same day as it picks up as it mops, it's a dream!

PoisonousSmurf · 24/11/2018 11:29

Get yourself a 'Fuginator'. Clever brush for cleaning grout.
