Eating bread with mould on it

I’ve just accidentally done this.

Got half way through my sandwich before I realised the mould on the crusts of the bread.

What’s going to happen to me?!

Nothing I'd imagine...I've done this before...my head fell off but apart from that i was fine Grin

AdamNichol · 23/11/2018 11:40

It'll cure you of the clap. And taste not unlike you'd expect soil too.

saltedcaramelmuffin · 23/11/2018 11:42

It tasted fine Confused

As long as you're not allergic to penicillin you'll be fine.

saltedcaramelmuffin · 23/11/2018 12:40

I really hope so. I’m a massive emetophobe and this is freaking me out!

Ugh I feel sick but it’s probably just psychosomatic

I’ve survived so far! (Apart from freaking out, which I’m still doing)

It's fine. Bread and cheese mould are perfectly safe to eat.

halfwitpicker · 23/11/2018 23:33

Yule be reet.

GummyGoddess · 24/11/2018 00:01

Nothing, my housemate years ago did this. He overdramatically retched and freaked out while I almost wet myself laughing as he was extremely annoying and deserved it. Sadly he was fine.

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 24/11/2018 00:06

I'm allergic to penicillin and have done this several times with no issue.

ScreamingValenta · 24/11/2018 00:14

I've accidentally done this and had no ill effects.

MyKingdomForBrie · 24/11/2018 00:15

I do this all the time. Pick the blue bits off if I notice. It's harmless.

ToffeeNosed · 24/11/2018 00:24

"scraping off the spores" is fine. If you drop it from 30cm & a green dust cloud forms then it's time for the bin.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 24/11/2018 00:34

A housemate from years ago used to eat slightly mouldy bread. He said most foods were okay and anything really gone bad could be tasted, smelt or was a bad texture.

He'd grown up in a fairly relaxed, mostly vegan commune and was ridiculously healthy.

abitoflight · 24/11/2018 00:54

I've eaten many a crumpet and only noticed green halfway through

Aquamarine1029 · 24/11/2018 02:45

You are 100% fine. Relax.

flumpybear · 24/11/2018 02:59

Nothing you'll be fine!

everydaymum · 24/11/2018 11:16

If it's so mouldy it walks itself to your plate, maybe give it a miss. Anything less that that you'll be fine.

mm8884448838 · 24/11/2018 11:18

I've lived to tell this tale.

bobstersmum · 24/11/2018 11:36

Well I cooked dh a garlic naan the other night that before I gave to him I realised had blue patches on. I didn't mention it and he's still alive. Sorry dh.

BrokenWing · 24/11/2018 14:00

As long as you're not allergic to penicillin you'll be fine.

penicillin and bread/cheese moulds are all different.

purplelass · 24/11/2018 14:08

penicillin and bread/cheese moulds are all different.

Really? I'm allergic to penicillin and get a reaction from blue cheese

BrokenWing · 25/11/2018 08:50

I'm allergic to penicillin too, Not a big fan of blue cheese but the couple of times I've had it I've been absolutely fine.

Internet advice is varies saying it is either a different strain or it is broken down in the process. Maybe it was the brand of cheese you had our you are allergic to more than one strain? Sounds like best avoided.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/11/2018 10:03

I'm allergic to penicillin and no reaction to blue veined cheese .

My DDad eats bread with mould no problems (he's of the post war don't throw anything away era) he's 81 and still going .
