How trafficky is it where you live?

Genuinely would like to know if there is anywhere in the UK (other than very rural areas) where the traffic isn't a bloody nightmare? (So we can move there!!!)

I live in Kent and there are roadworks absolutely everywhere. Endless gridlock, crawling along bumper to bumper. Diversions that send you off to sit in even more roadworks. Road closures. 50mph speed limits on motorways for tens of miles. Bridge closures. Lane closures. Junction closures. Rush hour is about 4 hours long at both ends of the day so it's frequently really bad. Is there anywhere out there that isn't like this, or is there no escape???

Does anyone have lovely clear roads in other parts of the UK?

My busy south Manchester suburb is fine. The city centre is currently getting a lot of flack tho.

I drive about the north a lot for work and some areas are absolutely horrendous for traffic and queuing, I don’t know how people live there.

I am in Southeast London, I regularly drive around 18 miles to southwest London and it can take anything from an hour to 2.5 hours. I love going to to my in laws in Cheshire and just getting to places with minimal fuss (M6 not included)

Move somewhere where there is Underground or a good rail or tram system so you can avoid using a car. Probably the only way you can avoid traffic jams in an urban area, unless you can walk everywhere.

Count out Durham. It is probably quicker to walk across the city than drive on really bad days. Most of the traffic crossing the city has to go via a single bridge.

Dorsets not so bad if you avoid Poole and Bournemouth, although we have to contend with tanks and tractors

Fucking ridiculous. The ring road and major trunk roads are gridlock morning and night which is why I've diched the car and cycle everywhere now and the cycle networks are brilliant. Takes me half the amount of time to get to work for twice the distance of my colleagues who drive.

I'm in the north east of Scotland and I could drive for a good hour without having to stop, except for the odd car turning off on to a different road. If I drive south to Aberdeen for the day, traffic can be quite bad at peak times. When I do go through to Aberdeen, I spend a lot of time thinking about people that live in cities and busy places. I couldn't actually cope living somewhere like that. The thought of daily traffic makes my brain start to twitch. I HATE traffic. If I'm in my car, I like to be moving! I did live in Aberdeen for a good 10 years but didn't have my driving licence then, so walked or bus-ed everywhere. Which was fine. Never minded chilling on the bus with my music or podcasts on. Move to rural north Scotland OP. Driving is awesome up here. Only bad thing about it is I could never imagine driving somewhere like Glasgow or bigger. If we ever drive down there, my husband takes the wheel after Dundee. My fear is too bad!
