Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Just a quick post to wish all of my fellow MN'ers a happy Thanksgiving Day. I am thankful for so many things, including my lovely family and friends, a job I enjoy and the fact that I don't have to cook today as my SIL is hosting the big meal! Smile

I've always liked this little Thanksgiving prayer by the American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson:

For each new morning with its light,,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

And thank you Mumsnet for all I've learned here and the friends I've made.

We've arrived and everyone is making short work of the prawns, brie and sausage while we wait for the turkey. 🙏 🙋 👍

Can I ask do you have turkey at Christmas as well? Often wondered.

Queencity

Fluffyears, no, we usually do a prime rib roast of beer for Christmas, or a Chateauxbriand.

No turkey for us at Christmas. We usually have baked ham or roast beef. My son-in-law sometimes does lamb, which is a bit exotic and adventurous by American standards. (As a rule, Americans don't eat lamb very much.)

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Our meal this year consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, roast potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, avocado and tomato salad, cheese board, pumpkin pie. And some vino, of course. We cut back a bit this year to make the day less about cooking and more about enjoying each other’s company.

I love Thanksgiving, my absolute favourite holiday. DH, who experienced Thanksgiving for the first time as an adult, loves it too.

AcrossthePond55 · 22/11/2018 20:14

Fluffy no turkey at Xmas for us, either. We do Iowa ham balls and cheese potatoes.

Thanks Seneca, and the same to you & yours. We're all good. A friend has been evacuated but is with family. He lost everything in a fire 10 years ago in the same area. He's not sure if his home is still there, but he thinks so based on maps.

MissConductUS · 22/11/2018 21:23

We do roast beef, not beer. Stupid kindle autocorrect. 😯

Across I love pumpkin pie too an have never tried a macadamia nut pie but it sounds fab. I'm glad you're safe.

We're in the seventh inning stretch (baseball term) before desert. My nephew's wife, who won't be here until tomorrow, just rang to request that some leftover Holiday Mashed Potatoes be set aside for her. 😁

Happy thanksgiving! And a wave to QuuenCity from down the road here in Western NC.

We’re British and have family visiting so no traditional TG food for us today. We only seem to have it when we’re with friends.

Today we had roast beef, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, kale and gravy. Yum. I’ve got a hankering for some cornbread pudding right now though. It’s perfect weather here today and had a lovely walk on the Blue Ridge Parkway to work up an appetite. I’m thankful for the lovely autumn weather, for having a couple of days holiday to relax and eat :)

AcrossthePond55 · 23/11/2018 04:22

MissConduct, it's the pecan pie recipe from the dark Karo Syrup bottle. I sub macadamias (break them up a bit with a mallet) for the pecans.

Love referring to that time period between dinner & pie as the 7th inning stretch! We're die hard baseball fans here (Go Dodgers next season!)

got major football doings

Yes, this is the weekend for a lot of the major college football rivalries, especially the in-state ones. So bitchwitch Florida or Florida State?

Fluffyears · 24/11/2018 19:56
