Can you recommend something to absorb window condensation?

We’ve got wooden sash windows with shutters. On cold mornings there’s loads of condensation when I open the shutters and I’m worried about it damaging the wood.

Currently wiping it up every morning, but there’s got to be a better solution!

Any ideas?

Silicon cat litter crystals in a sock on the windowsill. The crystals need to be replaced periodically but it really does work.

We only get condensation on windows with curtains thinking about it. All bedrooms but one of these is downstairs. Hmm. We have a karcher but it's no quicker to use this than a cloth.

You really need to get the water out of the house, though. If you wipe with a cloth and dry it indoors, the same water will be back on the windows next morning.

what? I hoover up the water and tip that water down the sink and yet, there are my windows all condensed again the next morning!

Collectorofcookbooks · 22/11/2018 15:47

It’s bedrooms. So, breathing?!

Hmmm. Like the idea of the cat litter in socks - the Lakeland ones aren’t narrow enough to slip behind the shutters.

small bowls of salt. That you can then dry out again in the microwave on defrost

Karchers don't last that long, I'm afraid. I lived in a grade II listed Georgian building for 4 years and we weren't allowed to install double glazing. I went through two Karchers in 4 years.

Silica gel won't be strong enough, I'm afraid. You need to wipe and remove the water each day.

Well yes, water from the windows isn't the only water in the air.

As the OP says, breathing. Also sweating, cooking, baths and showers, hanging wet laundry indoors, etc.

But if you don't get last night's condensation out of the house, you'll have that as well. Very definition of an endless task!

PerkingFaintly · 22/11/2018 16:16

Bedrooms. Yep, so all that breathing.

Opening a window first thing for 15 mins or so might be a slight improvement, but I'd go for the dehumidifier. You could rotate it round the rooms if they're not close together, or just leave it on a landing between them.

Emma765 · 22/11/2018 16:22

Unibond aero 360 works well but we have our dehumidifier on downstairs every night so all cooking/washing moisture is out of the house.

WildFlower2018 · 22/11/2018 16:29

If OP opts for the Karcher Window Vac, I've seen them on sale for half price recently. One place was curry's/pc world. HTH

Bufferingkisses · 22/11/2018 17:20

Buy a bottle of this. Spray on dry windows, wipe all over and leave. It stops the condensation forming in the first place. Reapply as required. It coped with our cafe windows where we'd previously had to roll up tea towels to catch the running water, replacing sodden tea towels whilst serving lunch was not fun!

Also excellent to stop car windows fogging up in the morning and dirt cheap Smile

Hello

I also have the drippy windows and am overexcited by the sound of the window vac.
Is this basic one good? There are more expensive ones
