A&E or doctor's surgery?

This morning my knee have way from under me and I fell, I have been in pain since but it's ok if I don't move my leg, I can walk as long as my leg stays straight, so I know this can wait until the morning as it's not an emergency but I don't want to waste a doctor's appointment (if I get one) if he only send me to A&E.
I have done this before many years ago and was in a splint type thing.

Do you have a minor injuries unit or walk in centre instead?

No neither are near, our walk in centre has been closed for months.
If I try and straighten my leg like you do in warm up exercises the pain is quite bad.

A&E... The GP will only send you there anyway if you need an x-ray.

Minor injuries would be best but seeing as it’s not an option then A&E. A lot have a UCC attached and will triage you there if more appropriate anyway.

It's going to have to wait until the morning as I don't have anyone to watch my youngest, as the only person I can get here while DH drops me off is my son who is currently at the hospital as he works there.

I'll be honest it wouldn't, and hasn't, occured to me to go to a and e for this sort of injury. Docs would be my first port of call.

whereas it wouldn't occur to me to go to GP A & E stands for accident and emergency. You've had an accident. They will triage you. Hope you feel better soon.

Prescribe painkillers? Refer for an x-ray? I don't think a and e is there to be used as a shortcut when it's not serious?

I don't need a prescription as I have plenty of pain killers, but I need something to stop my leg from moving side to side as the pain is so bad when I do, I don't think they will need to x-ray it as I'm sure it's a turn ligament but the pain is going up my leg and that didn't happen before.

Are you able to get a cab there? If painkillers aren’t helping, I hope you can get it seen soon

I could get a cab (didn't think of that) I will wait until DH gets in as he is walking the dogs.

It sounds like it should be checked out if the pain is travelling. Could you at the very least ring 111? To be honest I think you should go to A & E if you can find someone to be with your youngest.

sounds like they will want x-ray to check for a stress fracture. You could wait until tomorrow, but somewhere with x-ray machines is your only choice.

I think it's A&E job too. Have you got any bandages or a scarf you could wrap round it for support over night?

I think A+E. I fell and couldn't bare weight on my leg, but it was fine if I stayed still and that's where I got sent.

Something like 30% of people who go to A+E decided the day before when they would go. You won't be so unusual.

Agree with earlier poster that A&E is not to be used as a shortcut. I'd call my GP's surgery or 111 for advice first.

111 will just send her to A&E. You can't get an appt with my GP in less than 3 weeks without phoning 111. So...
