my 13 y/o daughter has been off school since monday due to constant throwing up, full body aches, coughing, cold sweat and a headache. today is her third day off and she has a doctors appointment in the morning for something different, however i was going to bring this up in order for medical advice and treatment. however, her high school have just called and told me she must attend tomorrow regardless of her physical state or i will be fined immediately. her school has a history of not sending children home when they are ill, especially if their attendance is not great, meaning if she throws up in school (which i have no doubt will occur) she will not be sent home. i worry because she is constantly crying due to being in immense pain yet i am having to send her to school, among other students who could get ill too, and forcing her to do work while in this state will not help her- she cannot concentrate on almost anything and is always tired. a friend told me i should ring them back and ‘kick off’ but i highly doubt they will change their mind! are they even allowed to fine me for just 5 days off (not in a row, she had two days off due to hospital appointments a few weeks ago)? can they even fine me for a child being ill???

Not sue if they can fine you but if your going to the doctors why not get them to write a note for her, that way if they do follow through with the fine you can back yourself up and dispute it

Ask the Dr to give you an appointment card and send an email with a picture of it and say it's a medical absense due to her being ill.
In the email remind them that the two previous absenses were also medical as hospital appointments.

Therefore they are authorised absenses and you expect them recorded correctly and the email is proof of the absenses as LA only fine for more than 10 unauthorised absenses.
Also point out the NHS guidelines for d and v and point out she is yet 48 hours clear.
