How to make extra money?

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/11/2018 12:49

I'm a single parent to a toddler and hoping to receive a job offer this week which is almost twice my current salary.

However, I currently rely on child tax credits and housing benefit to top up my salary and even though this will be a big increase I think I will be slightly worse off in real terms each month due to moving over to universal credit. I pay London rent and childcare 4 days per week.

Does anyone here know a good way to make additional cash?

Thanks

Nope. Only work.

All the MLMs don't make you anything. Online surveys and mystery shops don't either.

Part time work is your best option really.

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/11/2018 13:16

Would never consider MLM luckily!

There’s lots of threads on here about matched betting

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/11/2018 13:18

You won’t be moved over to UC.

AngryPrincess · 21/11/2018 19:13

Bellabutterfly2016 · 21/11/2018 19:15

Have you got a spare room? International student home stay??

namechangedforanon · 21/11/2018 19:17

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 21/11/2018 19:22

I do a bit of website testing for a couple of different companies on behalf of really big names. I average about £100 a month for a few 20 min tasks a week.

Would appreciate it if you sign up could you use this referral link?

I also work for this one, but they don't have a referral program.

Hi Spock, do you have to register as self employed to do that? Thanks.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 21/11/2018 20:17

I am already registered as self employed due to a previous job and a rental property so complete a tax return declaring my income including this.

I had forgotten about that aspect sorry. Although i don't earn anywhere near the tax threshold.

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/11/2018 21:02

Thanks all. Yes if you report a change of circumstance (like a new job) you get automatically moved over to UC in my area.

Have read some awful stories about single mother's turning to sex work to make ends meet because of UC

TeachesOfPeaches · 23/11/2018 07:11

Does matched betting take up a lot of time?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 23/11/2018 07:39

At first yes, I find it confusing but it gets easier.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 23/11/2018 14:34

I used the guide at save the student which explains it really well.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 29/11/2018 15:52

.

festivedramallama · 29/11/2018 16:05

There’s a video that explains matched betting here and the current mn thread is in Money here

DrWendyRhoades · 29/11/2018 16:26

Another one suggesting Matched Betting, I use Oddsmonkey for calculator and guidance.

It can take a little bit of time at the start (or e.g. if you come across a particularly awkward website) but you quickly get used to it and you can easily do it any time of day/night, laptop in front of the television, etc. so not exactly disruptive.
