Tell me about Bullet Journaling

I'm a bit late to the party but have just discovered bullet journaling. I've got a book, a few jazzy pens, and a lot of stuff in my head that needs committing to paper. Where do I start? What other accessories would be useful for me to waste all my money on ?

No probs. I like to spread the word. I don't tend to in rl because people think I'm a loon and say "Umm... so it's just a diary that you draw pretty pictures in? How lovely Hmm" Fools. Grin

I don’t do anything fancy. I just use an old notebook. I draw a bunker point at each point, shade it in when it’s done, and arrow through it when its moved to the next list. Cross through when the list is all done or moved to a new list.

The other key thing is the notebook must be portable, you need to carry it everywhere.

Leave a few pages at the beginning for ‘contents ’ pages. I have To Do lists, house lists, Christmas lists, dish lists etc. Very simple. The Pinterest pages make it all very overwhelming I find.

I can't carry mine everywhere as I go out without a bag whenever I can, but if it does happen to be in my bag I quite often produce it when I'm with friends as there will often be notes about something we're chatting about - I'm often out straight from work/school at DCs swimming lessons or wherever so it's still in my bag. I never take it out on long walking sessions such as shopping or days out though, I can always take a note on my phone and put it in the book later.

I've started with a future log and then added a master list where everything gets dumped onto before it gets sorted.
A monthly tracker for all the things I should do daily and tend to forget.
Then a page for my health, where I gathered the things I need to take care of and a Christmas page (who gets cards, who gets which present).
I've decided to locate pages for permanent information at the back plus the evergrowing (thanks MN) list of books to read.

That's a good idea @Prokupatuscrakedatus - putting the stuff I don't want to get 'lost' at the back.

I've got some lists sorted and am SO satisfied seeing things get ticked off. I genuinely feel more relaxed knowing I'm carrying everything around in my handbag rather than my head.

I've also started a double page spread of affirmations for when I need a morale boost

@Jinglesplodge the wonderful thing about bullet journal is if you lose grip and ignore it for days or weeks, it doesn’t matter. There’s no blank pages left like a diary, you just start on the next page. Sometimes I have random pages with two days on, then the next page is two more days a week later, other times I do proper weekly or monthly spreads, depends what’s going on. I do know the times I focus on being organised and setting it up a bit, things generally go more smoothly in my life! I notice the lack of it now.

But it’s real trial and error, what works for someone else might not work for you. Remember it’s only for you, it’s not an art project, it doesn’t have to be beautiful it just needs to work!
