Where can I buy a really slim (6 inches deep) shoe cabinet/storage for our hallway?

I'm fed up with the mess especially when other kids come visiting.
Ikea have one but its 30cm deep. I'd like one much slimmer than that if possible ... but not a canvas one with pockets as my wife thinks it'll be tacky.

Habitat has one but it’s £70 at full price.

Thanks Kescilly.
That looks great.
Do you know if it is meant to be screwed to the wall or does it have to be on the ground?

Have you looked at wayfair? I found a v narrow bench for my hall there

Sontagsleere · 20/11/2018 23:40

If it's the Hemnes one that's 30 cm the Hemnes without the drawer is 22 cm and we stuff quite a lot into it! It's the four door one.

Viebienremplie · 20/11/2018 23:41

I thought ours was slim - Hemnes from ikea but it's 89cm. - is that the depth? I love it though and it fits well in our narrow hallway. I think 6inches is quite a challenge.

@Jonboygoodnight a little of both. It stands flat on the ground but you also need to screw it to the wall. Because it is so slim, it could easily topple otherwise. You will need a flat area without skirting board so that it can be pushed right up against the wall.

And yes, some of the wider IKEA ones are also slimmer. We couldn't use those as options as we only had a very narrow space (both in width and depth).

Jonboygoodnight · 20/11/2018 23:48

the hemnes is 30cm - 1 foot ... which is too deep for our hallway.
The habitat one is 17cm which is approx 6.5 inches deep.

Kescilly, I'd rather not start removing skirting ... can I just screw it to the wall above the skirting?

I'm not sure that would support the weight, as there are only two places to screw it to the wall. They are on the back, near the top. My suggestion would be instead to get some wood or something to bridge the gap between the shoe cabinet and the wall. This way it could still be anchored to the wall while also resting its weight on the floor.

IKEA Trones is 18cm, light weight and can be fixed to the wall. Made.com might have some solutions for you also. Hemnes also have a 22cm in addition to the 30cm.

Ringsender2 · 21/11/2018 00:05

These are 7" deep. www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/shoe-cabinets/trones-shoe-cabinet-storage-white-art-00397307/

We have similar restrictions and they work well for us. You can hang them on the wall.

Habitat ones look good though.

Jonboygoodnight · 21/11/2018 07:44

What material is the ikea trones made from?
It looks a bit like canvas in the photos but their website doesn't actually say?
It looks good but would worry about how easy to clean it would be?

Tronas is plastic but sturdy and not tacky. Very slim, screwed to a door in our hallway. Easy to clean, drawers come out.

UtterlyDesperate · 21/11/2018 09:01

Try ebay - and Wayfair let you search by width, depth, height etc

Kescilly · 21/11/2018 09:02

The TRONES is plastic, IKEA includes all that information on their website under "Environment & materials."

Jonboygoodnight · 21/11/2018 12:14

On mobile it gives the material as 'Polypropylene plastic'. On desktop it doesn't give that information!

Ringsender2 · 25/11/2018 18:57

It's rigid plastic. They're not the sturdiest things in the world but despite my DH's cynicism about their durability in the face of the kids' use, they are all perfectly fine 8 months after installing them.Give them a whirl - they're cheap enough to ditch if you find something better.

Ringsender2 · 25/11/2018 19:00

They're great for kids' shoes by the way, not too bad for mine (size 5). Can only fit 3 pairs of the DH and DS boats in.

DearTeddyRobinson · 25/11/2018 19:14

Could you get a local carpenter to do a built in one?
