8 hours in Copenhagen

Share with me your collective wisdom people of Mumsnet. I have eight hours in Copenhagen with nothing to do. Where shall I go? What shall I see? What should I eat? Should I just sit in a chair and rejoice at having eight hours with nothing to do??

It’s a lovely city to walk around. Walk from little mermaid to Amelibourg palace, the cathedral and Rosenberg palace.

It’s very expensive for food and drink, brace yourself

wizzywig · 20/11/2018 19:29

Its 45min train ride to malmo. Have a little walk around the square

wizzywig · 20/11/2018 19:30

Oh, theres nyhavn thats very pretty

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/11/2018 19:35

The aquarium near the airport is fantastic, go and see the sea otters! Great food in Copenhagen. Walk to Nyhaven, climb the round tower for the view.

sackrifice · 20/11/2018 19:38

I personally wouldn't waste time getting to the Little Mermaid and back, you'll freeze your bits off.

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2018 19:40

The little mermaid is a waste of time.

I second the aquarium, it’s brilliant and the cafe is really good too.

The city is nice to wander around, particularly the Nyhaven area.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/11/2018 19:42

I wished we'd gone to Paper Island, there was just too much to do.

Taffeta · 20/11/2018 19:46

What time of year?

We were there in the summer and had a glorious few hours wandering around the botanical gardens. Yes to Nyhaven, and we had some beers and snacks at the Torrvehallern food market. DS was utterly foul to DD and made her cry and the barman there just silently gave DD a free yoghurt, no fuss. I emailed them to say how much it meant.

Love the Danes ❤️

Thanks everyone! I'm going next month. It's going to be chilly...!

Depending on the time of year - If Tivoli is open and decorated then I would go in and see the decorations.

If you are eating lunch then I would go to the Price Brothers restaurant (not the diner in tivoli). Adam Price produced Borgan and his brother does the music for the cirkus revy which is royal variety meets mock the week. They have a tv show like the 2 hairy bikers called eating with prices.

I would go to the Rundtårn built by Christian IV. Or to Amelienborg (I think) in a park.

Nyhavn is very pretty.

Lots of people love Strøget the pedestrian shopping street but I dont really rate it. There are cafes on the blocks behind which are cheaper and better value. I do like going to Illiumsbolighus which is a department store that always has danish designer christmas decorations for sale.

I think theres a good walking tour in the lonely planet. Might be worth a look.

pattyhoo · 20/11/2018 20:06

Tivoli! If it's Christmas it would be magical!

ILoveAnOwl · 20/11/2018 21:29

Thanks again. I've found a free walking tour I can download which takes in lots of your suggestions.

I had this, took a boat tour, went to paper island for food (think it's shut now?) and to the flagship Lego shop, was nice

lizzie1970a · 20/11/2018 21:36

Tivoli Gardens for sure. I loved it.

ThunderInMyHeart · 20/11/2018 22:40

Tivoli and 45 minute train to Hornbaek to see the Kusama installation at the Louisiana Museum. Tiny queues!
